<la-s> Has anyone here gotten sway working? (Without HW acceleration) I get errors like "[backend/drm/atomic.c:67] Failed to add atomic DRM property: Timer expired" and "[backend/drm/renderer.c:215] Plane 0 doesn't support format 0x34325258". I was wondering if anyone here had any hints
<la-s> The output is extremely garbled and unusable unfortunately
<la-s> I originally tried with panfrost but realized that it was the same even without panfrost

<plntyk> "Please note, however, that the inclusion of a “wasted” ‘X’ channel is bad for compression efficiency, and so it’s recommended to avoid formats containing ‘X’ bits"
<plntyk> format 0x343.... is DRM_FORMAT_XRGB8888

<la-s> Thanks
<la-s> Meson should support it though, right?
<plntyk> from reading source code drivers/gpu/drm/meson/meson_plane.c - its listed there in supported_drm_formats since a commit from 2016
<plntyk> you probably should run a testing program - google suggests "modetest" that can list capabilities of DRM planes and their formats
<plntyk> eh meson is probably the hardware supported - so dunno what the software one uses

<narmstrong> la-s: yes, it support this format
<narmstrong> la-s: which kernel are t you running ?
<narmstrong> wlroots (the lib behind sway) has been tested successfully with Lima, no reason it won't work with panfrost or swrast
<la-s> narmstrong: 5.7rc4 with the patches in your amlogic/v5.8/bifrost branch
<narmstrong> la-s: did sway use the right dri device ? panfrost probes before the display device, so the GPU is dri0 and the display is dri1
<la-s> it did narmstrong
<la-s> I am pretty sure at least, it says that it initialized the DRM backend on the meson device
<la-s> and anyway, it does output something
<la-s> I could even see the swaybar in a single frame once
<narmstrong> this is weird
<la-s> I asked in #sway-devel, and am trying to debug it
