<Esmil> mmind00: oh, I might have misunderstood. by edp you mean an external display via the usb-c and not the built-in screen?
LargePrime has joined #linux-rockchip
<mmind00> Esmil: not sure, actually I guess both might pose problems right now ... i.e. the rk3399 has 2 dp controllers ... an analogix edp that is driving the internal display and a cadence dp that is tied to the type-c port
<mmind00> Esmil: both have drivers in the mainline kernel, but seems to be missing stuff to fully work
<Esmil> Right, but at least the internal display works fine for me with the patches I linked
<Esmil> I get a console and can start X and stuff
<Esmil> ..although without this patch the console is almost unusable because of all the error splats: http://lists.infradead.org/pipermail/linux-rockchip/2017-October/017819.html

<Esmil> mmind00: btw. how do you run mainline kernels on the chromebook plus?
<Esmil> i wrap the kernel and fdt in uboot FIT images and then wrap that with vbutil_kernel in order for the chromeos bootloader to boot it
<Esmil> I'm thinking that the chromeos bootloader might set something up linux doesn't which is why I get output on the internal screen
<Esmil> in case you roll your own u-boot

<mmind00> Esmil: my kevin is a permanent part of my boardfarm and has a netboot-only coreboot on its flash, but it does have a working display when loading the kernel ... of course I haven't tested that in a while

<Esmil> ah, cool
<aalm> mmind00, i saw some rk3188 related u-boot patches, did those get commited somewhere yet? (i guess i'm too lazy for patchwork :p)
<beeble> not yet, still in review
<aalm> ok, thanks
<vagrantc> beeble: any thoughts on how to really short the eMMC on a firefly-rk3399? it seems to work when shorted just enough to load and crash and not get into maskrom mode...
<phh> vagrantc: fwiw, yesterday I continued my tests, and it was really hard to get into maskrom. I succeed only once on 7 tries. one try seemed to be ok, but as soon as I unplugged, it booted
<beeble> vagrantc: i don't own a firefly-rk3399. so i have no experience on how they do it. i would usually just use a tweezer
<phh> I found it much harder to boot to maskrom, than what I'm used to on rk3288 tvboxes
<beeble> i would suggest to use a rk3399 board that has a slider for that :>

<vagrantc> beeble: hah
<vagrantc> i guess i could try and find someone to solder on a switch to have a more certain connection
<phh> beeble: which one do you recommend?
<beeble> phh: https://www.theobroma-systems.com/haikou-q7-dev-kit/overview full disclosure, i work at the company selling it
<vagrantc> swappable cpu/ram module is kinda cool
<beeble> so maybe i'm a bit biased
<phh> looks annoying to buy...
<beeble> i know, still waiting on a new shipment. as soon as it's in you will be able to get in on amazon
<beeble> anytime now *finger crossed*

<vagrantc> arg! i got it into maskrom mode, and i *thought* i wiped u-boot spl with zeros ... but it's still loading it from somewhere
<vagrantc> so, using a shorter jump actually mattered
<vagrantc> a longer jump cable can cause the short, but somehow the u-boot SPL loads ... fast enough before the short matters?
* vagrantc feigns ignorance, but it appears to work
<vagrantc> er, no feigning needed
<vagrantc> wild speculation
anarsoul|2 has joined #linux-rockchip
<vagrantc> it's not actually able to flash the device, so when i reboot, it fails
<vagrantc> it's like the flash is read-only or something
<vagrantc> works well enough to load u-boot-spl unless i've got a solid short, but then can't actually write to the flash ...
<vagrantc> alright! got it to boot off of microSD
* vagrantc sighs
lurchi_ is now known as lurchi__
<vagrantc> it now reliably goes into maskrom mode when booted without anything in the microSD ... yay
<vagrantc> so, now, back to my original issue ... testing a local build of arm-trusted-firmware and u-boot
