<amstan> stdint: hello
<stdint> amstan, morning
<amstan> i give up, i need help now, heh
<amstan> is there a way to try usb gadget mode on the firefly-3399?
<stdint> amstan, the only usb otg port at rk3399 is a usb 3.0 type c port
<amstan> stdint: yeah, perfect
<stdint> what is the problem you meet
<amstan> well, i'm trying to get it working on chromeos, with the 4.4 kernel
<amstan> i have to massage the dwc3 driver a little bit, to connect it to our ec drive (since the ec does pd negotiation)
<amstan> so i think i did all that, but when i plug it in, there's nothing
<amstan> i tought it would be a good idea to try it on the firefly with the provided kernel and see what areas of the dwc3 driver are supposed to activate
<stdint> amstan, the kernel the rockchip offers for chromeos is a little different
<stdint> but I think it should work under the linux
<amstan> i know, dwc3 itself is a little different, but at least i'll know what's missing

<wouterstreamit> phh: 15:46 <phh> hum, your display is lvds? My board has two outputs, one of them is wired as LVDS -> HDMI and the other one is the normal HDMI output, both do not work right now
muvlon has quit [Quit: Leaving]
<phh> I suggest to disable lvds at the moment
<phh> I guess the way the lvds panel is declared has changes
<phh> D

<wouterstreamit> phh: disabling LVDS related parts in the device tree removed the errors and now the other HDMI output works, thanks a lot for your help!

<phh> wouterstreamit: you should have rk3288-evb-android-rk818-lvds.dts to understand how to setup a lvds ""panel""
<phh> though perhaps your lvds -> hdmi requires some i2c
LongWork has joined #linux-rockchip
<wouterstreamit> Thanks, I will be looking into that later as the support for that output isn't needed yet. I do have a problem with asound now though
<phh> mmmm, it should be quite easy, you just need to have a root node that looks like this https://pastebin.com/19GMP3RA
<phh> well, I guess you only want hdmi sound?
<wouterstreamit> I want both HDMI sound and a seperate audio output
<wouterstreamit> My device tree's sound configuration looks like this right now: https://pastebin.com/Du6cVvJm
<phh> ok, what's your current problem with asound?
LongWork has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
<wouterstreamit> Basically nothing seems to work - recording gives an error main:807: audio open error: No such file or directory, playback using speaker-test I don't hear anything
<phh> /proc/asound/cards reports no sound card?
<wouterstreamit> It reports 1 card

<LargePrime> rockchip? mainline? WTF?
<phh> LargePrime: ?
<LargePrime> is this real? rockchip is mainlineing a chip?
<phh> uh
<phh> yes
<phh> that's been started more than one year ago
<mmind00> actually quite a lot of years ago :-)
<LargePrime> are you suggesting my suprise is undeserved?
<phh> LargePrime: well not totally, they did quite a brutal change from "fuck GPL and ffmpeg" to mainlining
<LargePrime> and, you are suggesting, they have had a 'come to linus' moment?
<LargePrime> 'coe to gnu'?
<MoeIcenowy> phh: I think "fuck GPL and ffmpeg" is Allwinner, not Rockchip
<LargePrime> are we expecting a blobless eventuality?
<LargePrime> or is that naive?
<phh> LargePrime: well on rk3288 the only blob left is mali driver
<LargePrime> and that will never change?
<phh> LargePrime: though rk3399 has one new blob
<phh> i'm not too sure what his its state
<phh> LargePrime: you mean will mali blob become opensource?
<LargePrime> yes, or, more generally, OSS graphics on rick arm chips
<phh> only 3d is closed-source
<phh> and rockchip can't do much there, they use whatever IP are available on the market
<phh> there is either imagination or ARM
<phh> both are closed source
<LargePrime> i thought the i.whatever arm chips had oss graphics driver?
<LargePrime> phh,
cnxsoft has quit [Quit: cnxsoft]
<phh> mmm, I can't find any information on modern i.MX
<aalm> why is it that there
<phh> i.MX6 is obsolete compared to rockchip chips, but indeed, they are using vivante, which are opensource
<phh> though by reverse-engineering, not by support from vivante
<aalm> why is it that there's no better docs for some parts of the rockchips, btw..
<phh> aalm: you mean like vpu?
<aalm> no, i mean like RK3188 CRU.pdf
<aalm> or s/CRU/PMU/, or System Security etc.
<phh> indeed, rk3188 is missing much more things than rk3288

<LargePrime> phh, it is unlikely rockchip will help make an oss graphics driver for any rockchip, correct?
<phh> They don't have enough engineers
<phh> I think
<mmind00> LargePrime: Also that would likely violate a lot of contracts with ARM
