<vagrantc>
wow.
<vagrantc>
i haven't seen u-boot boot on a firefly-rk3399 in quite some time ... still haven't gotten u-boot-spl and all that working, but did manage to boot with miniloader with 2018.03 for the first time in a while
<Ke>
communication is hard again today, anyway, you can probably report on your progress
<vagrantc>
i typically file an installation report
<vagrantc>
anyways, gotta head out.
<Ke>
me too
<Ke>
thanks

hrm. debian-installer ran fine, but the initial boot failed ... maybe due to the issue with the fan53555 module

has anyone tested any bootloader for samsung chromebook plus
<Ke>
like coreboot or something
<Ke>
recently
<Ke>
now that I have testclips and ability to flash spi-nor externally, I might try
<Ke>
especially I would like to get rid of the beep on bootin untrusted OS

Ke: this machine isn't affected by Meltdown. Only Spectre (and only on the A72).
<Ke>
anyway, I still need the beep update and spectre update
<mmind00>
Ke: when I got my Kevin sample device I did put on the netboot-only variant of the CrOS coreboot ... but that must have been more than a year ago already
<adj__>
maz, Ke: it was written somewhere (maybe by arm inc.) that the unreleased cortex-a75 was affected by meltdown or similar
<adj__>
it was unknown if it will be fixed before release
<adj__>
Ke, mmind00: afaik, paulk was. He said that booting completely with free software is possible
Aussie_matt has joined #linux-rockchip

I think that he uses the acer r13 because he prefers the form factor (13.3" instead of 12.1")
<Ke>
samsung chromebook plus has the silly US keyboard, but it has a cover for the SD slot, which is really a big deal
<maz>
Ke: also, you don't need any firmware support for either Meltdown or 3a.
<adj__>
maz, yo mean to mitigate it, right?
<maz>
adj__: yes.
vagrantc has quit [Quit: leaving]
<Ke>
adj__: anyway firefly-rk3399 seems to be able to boot with free software, so I would very much assume Samsung Chromebook Plus woudl too
<Ke>
free as defined by debian project
<adj__>
if I remember correctly, for chromebook plus and r13 the only piece absolutely needed to boot of proprietary code was the power management processor of the r13
<adj__>
I assume that in chromebook plus wifi is not replaceable...
<Ke>
you mean outside of the soc
<Ke>
replaceable for most people, you can always solder
<adj__>
I mean, if it's a replaceable pci3 or usb module
<adj__>
pcie
<Ke>
it's somehow pcie but listed in devicetree
<Ke>
as in the driver is pcie driver, but loaded on platform bus, I was moderately bamboozled on that spec
<Ke>
but probably not replaceable
<NotKit>
a bit offtopic, but is there any chance to use Mali T86x Rockchip Linux blobs for Mali T880 on MediaTek in case kernel part is ported to match?

chromebooks have the slow and small mass storage problem
<Ke>
also, I guess there could possibly be a bit more ram
<adj__>
Ke, I own a novena laptop, and it used to be my main computer for some time
<adj__>
the case and form factor was not ideal
<adj__>
right now, we need to make compromises, one way or another
<adj__>
biggest compromises for rk3328 and rk3399 are GPU and VPU

Ke: you would be surprised how much of your desktop relies on GL-portions nowadays [depending on your desktop environment of course]
<Ke>
perhaps, I use C201 without gpu drivers now
<Ke>
so not much of a surprise anymore
<Ke>
with xmonad/lxde
<Ke>
firefox is a bit slow on some effects and emulated hw rescale on video play is slow
<Ke>
or chromium
<Ke>
bigger issue is slower mass storage, which is actually unfixable without hw mods to my knowledge

Anyone in here use genimage before? Want to confirm the correct offset values to assign to the boot.img and rootfs for the config file. I'm thinking I need to multiply the listed offsets in the rockchip wiki by 512. Just looking for confirmation :)
<amstan>
0x39 is probably a good flag combination if you're regularly running linux on your device
<amstan>
no need to reflash the whole thing

Hi. mmind00 someone told me to talk to you about my archlinux on rock64 not getting usb3 sda1 to appear on the system. Can you help me with this?
<dannysantos>
the power on my usb disk seems to work, but can't get an sda. usb2 works fine
<mmind00>
dannysantos: usb3 isn't enabled yet on rk3328
<mmind00>
dannysantos: while I had patches queued for basic support, the usb3 has some issues that needs special handling
<dannysantos>
ok, so do you know when will it be enabled? I don't understand very much about this stuff
<dannysantos>
mmind00, ok I understand
<mmind00>
dannysantos: not sure yet ... need to find time to resolve ... although I do hope to find the time for things to be able to make it into 4.18 ... but don't quote me on that ;-)
<dannysantos>
ok :)
<amstan>
mmind00: dwc3?
<dannysantos>
thank you for the info mmind00
<mmind00>
amstan: dwc3, innosilicon usb3-phy ... and that phy doesn't handle unplugs well
<amstan>
heh
<mmind00>
amstan: so once you unplug a device it won't recognize new ones until it gets reset
<amstan>
sounds like a driver similar to dwc3-rockchip.c would fix it, but that would require an extcon too
<mmind00>
amstan: I picked and cleaned patches from the vendor tree, but need more time to look closely
<dannysantos>
you guys are awesome. thank you for your work job :)
<mmind00>
I'll get to it, especially as a friend of mine is using a rk3328-based tv-box as home-server and is hounding me as well for usb3 support :-D
<amstan>
mmind00: heh, nice
<amstan>
mmind00: yeah, i saw dannysantos asking about usb3 in #archlinux-arm, so i pointed him here
<dannysantos>
mmind00, thank you. I also have rk3328 as a server
