<focus_it> hi guys, I'm scoping out a itead studio cubie like A10 board Iteaduino Plus http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/iteaduino-plus-arm-cortex-a8-dev-platform
<focus_it> I bought 2 and fired up one up today with their distro
<focus_it> The device has no NAND so relies solely on booting from uSD card.
<focus_it> When I look at it, it has script.bin and kernel only on the uSD boot partition. A second partition contains root on the SD card.
<focus_it> I want to try and boot from sata - where exactly do I change it?
<focus_it> is it in spl? I'm reading http://linux-sunxi.org/U-Boot#Compilation but that is not clear where the environment may get set up to tell the linux to boot from /dev/sda
<focus_it> I assume its an environment setting, but how is this environment saved into uboot? - that detailed bit of info is missing from that page :(
<focus_it> Any pointers appreciated - thanks.

<pfdm> what do you guys think about the performance of rendering through EGL vs /dev/disp directly ?
<hramrach> depends on your application. there is g2d too

<pfdm> it's for video rendering, after the picture is decoded, what's the best option ? framebuffer (may be easiest)? or EGL and then more feature as the drivers get better ?
<hramrach> probably overlay

<mnemoc> hi hno
<hno> feeling a bit like I am drowning in bitcoin matters at the moment..
<mnemoc> btw, tom said radxa's shop will accept bitcoins as payment method. just hope they release sunxi stuff soon
<wingrime> hno: heh, I waitng you for a long time
<wingrime> hno: something strange with uboot default settings
<hno> wingrime, I am always lurking here..
<wingrime> hno: not last week :/
<wingrime> hno: simply say, for me, automatic boot fails
<hno> with what error?
<wingrime> hno: after kernel load it just write message resseting....
<wingrime> hno: but, most strange, if I load and run script manualy all works as expected
<hno> Ok. that is a bit odd.
<wingrime> mnemoc: you , know story I think ///
<hno> wingrime, you don't happen to have a full boot log?
<hno> and what board is it?
<wingrime> hno: I tryed cb2 and olimex with different spl
<wingrime> hno: Thats very odd
<wingrime> hno: I think there poblem in default env
<wingrime> hno: it looks slightly different when I interupt
<oliv3r> wingrime: pong

<wingrime> hno: If I do ext2load boot.scr and source , all behaves normaly
<wingrime> or even I load kernel manualy and run
<wingrime> hno: only auto start behaves incorrectly
<mnemoc> so it's a buggy u-boot env?
<hno> wingrime, "boot" and "run bootcmd" is exactly the same thing.
<wingrime> but first work, and second not
<wingrime> err,

<wingrime> hno: oh, thats strange more
<wingrime> hno: "env run bootcmd" works
<wingrime> hno: "run bootcmd" hungs

<focus_it> Hi guys, I'm reading http://linux-sunxi.org/U-Boot#Compilation - can't figure out which file need to be set with the default uboot environment - any hints?
<hno> wingrime, gan be any kind of ghost. no ideas.
<hno> focus_it, what do you mean?
<focus_it> i'm trying to make the iteaduino plus board switch from booting from sdcard to sata - it has no flash - there is only script.bin and linux on the boot partition
<focus_it> i don't know where to tell to let the card switch to boot from sata
<focus_it> is it some file for spl or is it some file for uboot that needs to be set
<focus_it> I read this http://free-electrons.com/blog/mkenvimage-uboot-binary-env-generator/ but not sure how it relates to sunxi uboot
<focus_it> i'm also looking at u-boot-sunxi/board/sunxi their board is not added in yet
<focus_it> I got 2 :)
<mnemoc> A10 or A20?
hramrach has joined #linux-sunxi
<focus_it> hno: There is a 2GB lxde image they build for it for sdcard, first partition has just the script.bin and linux while second partition has the rootfs.
<focus_it> mnemoc: A10
<mnemoc> focus_it: got any "OSHW" files?
<focus_it> hno: no flash, so no idea how their device boots from sdcard and moves to the second partition
<focus_it> mnemoc: OSHW = OS hardware files?
<mnemoc> yes
<mnemoc> they claim open source design, and the OSHW logo is all around
<focus_it> i grabbed the script.bin and turned it into script.fex
<mnemoc> but nothing interesting in http://dl.linux-sunxi.org/SDK/itead.cc-sdk-2013-09-12
<mnemoc> focus_it: can you a10meminfo and submit it to sunxi-boards ?
<focus_it> a bit dicey their use of that logo
<focus_it> mnemoc: a10meminfo - i can run on command line after lxde boots?
<mnemoc> as long as it booted from nand, yes
<focus_it> mnemoc: it has no nand
<mnemoc> :|
<focus_it> mnemoc: the logo is on the motherboard, but the plug in cpu board has no such logo
<mnemoc> true. but no files for the carrier board or the arduino extension either
<mnemoc> both having the oshw logo
<mnemoc> just pinout
<focus_it> mnemoc: a10meminfo - command not found
<mnemoc> focus_it: first clone sunxi-boards, and commit the .fex
torindel has quit [Ping timeout: 245 seconds]
<mnemoc> then edit the [dram_para] based on the a10meminfo output, and commit again

<focus_it> mnemoc: there is one called pcduino there - is that them or need to create a new one like iteaduino_plus.fex?
<mnemoc> pcduino is a different thing
<focus_it> ok
<mnemoc> iteaduino_plus_a10.fex maybe ?
<mnemoc> assuming they will upgrade to a20 soon
<focus_it> ok - they mention an a20 on the way
<libv> mnemoc: a quick browse did not give me a set of requirements to allow the use of this OSHW logo
<libv> nor a way to enforce this...
<libv> there seems to be no real organization behind it, and therefor no regulation might exist on this :(
<mnemoc> just like CE = China Exports....
<libv> tsvetan might know more about this logo though
torindel has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
torindel has joined #linux-sunxi
<libv> imho it should be made clear on the sunxi site that this itead project is lying about it being OSHW
<libv> as itead itself, and thus its users, are sourcing everything off of sunxi, this might have some effect
<focus_it> libv: i would not be too harsh - they are just getting going - they also make very low cost pcb prototyping happen
<focus_it> they also do a lot of arduino stuff - may be their mboard is arduino compatible, but their cpu board is not meant to be open sourced
<focus_it> so they do no wrong yet by putting their logo on the mboard and not on their cpu board
<libv> they use a pretty piss poor excuse...
<focus_it> agreed
<focus_it> get conned like this so many times
<libv> ah, oshwa.org, why did i miss that yesterday
<wingrime> hno: thats defenetly something with default config
<hno> wingrime, printenv kernel
<hno> wingrime, printenv extraargs
<hno> or better yet, printenv bootargs just before bootm
<hno> wingrime, your not-working bootargs is nowhere near default settings. That looks like some attempt at getting an fbcons console running instead of serial.

<hramrach> well, if hte pins are prone to getting broken it's not so nice
<mnemoc> not really intended to be removed, ever
<hramrach> hard to find connector with so many pins that is easily user detached
<mnemoc> olimex uses "ide" connectors
<hramrach> they seay you are supposed to be able to make your own baseboard
<wingrime> hno: what patches around it
<mnemoc> somehow I still prefer so-dimm
<hramrach> for that you need to do a few remove/reattach cycles
<wingrime> mnemoc: thats not IDE conector unless you cut some pins
<hramrach> sodimm would probably work
<wingrime> mnemoc: thats IDC
<hramrach> or something like sodimm with like 4x the pins
<hramrach> later
<wingrime> mnemoc: IDC-40
