<jelle> ssvb: I know
<Galeots> hi
<ssvb> jelle: so what was your question?
<jelle> ssvb: so I was looking in some guidance how to add it
<ssvb> just look at the USB code for the older SoCs
<jelle> ok
<Galeots> script.bin for orange pi plus 2 sata active
<Galeots> I do not know how to turn on sata from script.bin not work
<Galeots> use as OpenELEC system
<ssvb> Galeots: I don't have Orange Pi Plus, but AFAIK it has a USB-SATA bridge connected internally to one of the USB ports
<ssvb> you can try to run 'lsusb' to check if you can see it there
<ssvb> and then just enable the relevant driver in the kernel
<Galeots> I have to fill everything from scratch therefore_
<ssvb> what exactly are you trying to fill from scratch?
tomboy65 has quit [Ping timeout: 245 seconds]
Kooda has joined #linux-sunxi
<Galeots> I have to fill the whole kernel to enable sata?
<ssvb> "fill the kernel"?
<ssvb> do you mean "compile" the kernel?
<ssvb> still I would strongly advise you to fist run "lsusb" and then also check "zcat /proc/config.gz" to see what kind of config is used by your current kernel
<Galeots> yes
<ssvb> additionally, as the wiki page says, it may make sense to check if you are connecting and powering your hard drive correctly
<ssvb> apparently there are some incompatible sata power cables around

<Kooda> Hi :) I’m trying to boot a mainline kernel on an Olimex Lime A10 but it stays stuck on “Starting kernel ...” any idea what might be the cause of that? The only thing I found on the wiki about this was about the legacy kernel.
<plaes> what u-boot are you using?
tomboy64 has joined #linux-sunxi
<ssvb> Kooda: do you get this "Starting kernel" message on a HDMI monitor or on a UART serial console?
<Kooda> Mainline as well, a pretty recent one (a few days ago)
<Kooda> On the serial console.
tomboy65 has quit [Ping timeout: 276 seconds]
<ssvb> do you provide a correct dtb blob?
<vagrantc> and are the dtb, kernel and initramfs addresses clobbering one another?
<ssvb> anyway, you can enable earlyprintk to get more debugging messages
<Kooda> I believe so. Here is the whole boot log: http://lxp.fr/p3o31puv8j
<vagrantc> that's the u-boot from debian stable, not mainline ... but it should work...
<ssvb> your U-Boot is way too old: "U-Boot SPL 2014.10+dfsg1-5 (Apr 07 2015 - 21:52:20)"
tomboy64 has quit [Ping timeout: 248 seconds]
<Kooda> I just spotted that. Strange, I compiled it from source a few days ago. I must have done something silly.
<ssvb> and "CPU: 1008000000Hz, AXI/AHB/APB: 3/2/2" is bad because some A10-Lime boards are known to be unstable at this clock speed
tomboy64 has joined #linux-sunxi
<ssvb> this should be already addressed in a more modern U-Boot
<vagrantc> Kooda: how did you compile it, and what did you do to install it?
<Kooda> vagrantc: I followed the instruction of the Mainline U-Boot wiki page.
<Kooda> But I surely missed something.
<ssvb> most likely you forgot to write this newly compiled U-Boot to the SD card
<ssvb> and it already had some older U-Boot there
tomboy65 has joined #linux-sunxi
<Kooda> There we go, I have a proper u-boot now.
<Kooda> But the problem is still there
<Kooda> The CPU frequency seems ok now

<_aeris_> any clue for a source of this trouble ?
<apritzel> _aeris_: have you tried updating the DTB
<_aeris_> no, how i can do that ? :s
<apritzel> there seems to be a really unfortunate compatibility issue
<apritzel> "make dtbs" after you build the kernel
<_aeris_> i try :)
<apritzel> then copy the appropriate .dtb from arch/arm/boot/dts

<_aeris_> seems i have this line on OK and not on the KO boot log : [ 1.661705] SCSI subsystem initialized
Galeots has quit [Quit: Page closed]
<apritzel> so what config do you use? sunxi-defconfig?
<_aeris_> debian one
<_aeris_> config-4.3.0-0.bpo.1-armmp from linux-image-armmp package
<_aeris_> diff after building are negligeable
<apritzel> well, there is ZONE_DMA_FLAG and USB_OTG
<apritzel> could start with those to rule this out, at least
<_aeris_> i don’t have ZONE_DMA on vanilla kernel :(
<_aeris_> seems debian specific
<_aeris_> and CONFIG_ZONE_DMA_FLAG is not settable

<catphish> KotCzarny: did you ever test the A20's SATA read speed?
<catphish> i'm now certain the ethernet has a combined speed of 1.5Gbps (TX+RX), i don't know why, but i'd speculate that SATA might have the same limit, people seem to always report the read speed limited to about 200MB/s
