someone told me i may have luck with bananapi question.. i want to buy banana pi soon from a friend of mine.. the problem is, he doesn't know the model nor a way to obtain it
<rud0lf>
googling "how to obtain banana pi model" leads all to raspberry pi pages
<wens>
uh, the model is silkscreened on the board
<rud0lf>
so, i think you could maybe help me or at last push in good direction :)

really?

i just setup 8 all-h3-cc h5 boards with kmscube, nice cpuburn-a53, and memtester with DDR at 768 MHz for almost two hours so far...make me think that a lot of board makers use garbage ram
AneoX has joined #linux-sunxi
<anarsoul>
:)
<lvrp16>
meanwhile anything over 1.05GHz on 1.1V makes H5 crash
<lvrp16>
so 1008MHz seems like a 10% margin
<lvrp16>
i'll let this run for a day and report back
<lvrp16>
weird that 768 seems rock solid so far but 792 won't even boot
AneoX_ has joined #linux-sunxi
<KotCzarny>
according to wiki it can still crash
<KotCzarny>
so do 24-48h burn test
AneoX has quit [Ping timeout: 245 seconds]
<KotCzarny>
also, doing some consistency check in bg is probably also good idea
<lvrp16>
memtester is the consistency check, if it crashes, it kills off everything and reports
<lvrp16>
that or a kernel panic
<lvrp16>
i'll let this set run for 48 hours, 75-80W
<lvrp16>
if i turn off the fan, it drops to 50W
<KotCzarny>
W as in watt?
lurchi_ has joined #linux-sunxi
<lvrp16>
yeah
<KotCzarny>
o.O
<KotCzarny>
kinda high
<lvrp16>
this is coming off a watt-a-meter not some scientific instrument and also factor in AC-DC
<KotCzarny>
might be psu

lvrp16: which board did you use to test 1.1V?
<lvrp16>
all-h3-cc-h5
<lvrp16>
that's setup for 1.1v, the all-h3-cc-h3 is setup for 1.2v
<wens>
hmm , ok
<lvrp16>
i'll test the all-h3-cc-h3 maximum clock speed tomorrow
<lvrp16>
or the day after
<lvrp16>
give this current setup 48 hours
<wens>
I guess we should update the dts so all-h3-cc-h5 shows 1.1V instead of 1.2V
<wens>
and maybe tweak the OPP table
<wens>
I wasn't aware of the different voltage
<lvrp16>
i think it's fine the way it is since with the current opp table it's 1008 which is correct
<lvrp16>
you would have to split out the regulator
<lvrp16>
allwinner's engineer told me that 1.1 on h5 is the same as 1.2 on h3...i will confirm that when i finish my h3 tests

his comment about 1008mhz being the max on 1.1v for h5 is pretty much spot on
<lvrp16>
seems like the lesson from this memory testing is don't use spectek chips
<wens>
well if 1008mhz @ 1.1v is stable then we can tweak the OPP so boards can run cooler
<lvrp16>
it's fixed regulator
<lvrp16>
oh you mean on other boards?
<wens>
I meant for the other pis :)
<wens>
like most other boards use gpio switching between 1.1/1.3
<lvrp16>
yes, that's what h5 is rated for i think
<lvrp16>
uhhh 1.3v...why....
<lvrp16>
just use rockchip...
<wens>
I don't know, maybe design was derived from h3
<wens>

<MoeIcenowy>
on my Nano Pi NEO2 sometimes it doesn't boot
<wens>
ah, ok
<MoeIcenowy>
and Nano Pi NEO2 has the same complexity as Banana Pi M2+
<MoeIcenowy>
it has old fixed voltage revisions and new GPIO adjustable revisions
<MoeIcenowy>
mine is fixed 1.1V

argh :/

MoeIcenowy, have you checked the voltage from your regulator to ensure it's 1.1V? I've heard of boards using wrong resistors to set output voltage--leading to instability and other pain.
