from what I can see, h616 dram controller is probably similar to that in imx8m, but unfortunately, they are hiding PHY related code in coprocessor binary firmware

Sure, but it is really hacky, this was minimal-effort mod of an existing project, with an end-of-life PDF library and windows forms UI. because the PDF format is like a series of painting-instructions, there is no real general way of de-watermarking, it always needs to be tailored to the specific watermarking tool. so even less motivation for nice

The FreeScale (now NXP) PowerPCs had really good register documentation, and DRAM init was also coverered in several ANs.

I thought the threshold they had set was wether the binary blob was freely distributable. The reasoning being that a completely hardware device shouldn't get a bonus as being more 'open' than one using a small built-in processor that needs a firmware. As long as the firmware was as freely distributable as the hardware.

hexdump0815: yes, I used latest master for template, but really that driver didn't change for some time now, so you can apply it on older U-Boot versions too

but if DRAM driver is written, I believe rest will be more or less easy, mostly reusing existing drivers

basically the water around CPU is maybe 40 - 45C at most but it needs to heat the target boiler upto 80C
