<zmdkrbou>
(because i don't see the link between ocaml and minitel, and this is supposed to be an english speaking channel)
<zmdkrbou>
(and you still use a minitel ???!!!!)
<shekmalhen>
is there a french ocaml channel?
<zmdkrbou>
nope
<TeXitoi>
oups
<zmdkrbou>
but you can ask people from here to go to ... let's say #ocaml-fr
<TeXitoi>
wrong chan ;-)
<zmdkrbou>
(lots of people here are french :p)
<zmdkrbou>
TeXitoi: hehe
<shekmalhen>
that's what I thought :)

* dylan
doesn't mind when people speak french here, personally. Even though he cannot speak it.
* zmdkrbou
doesn't think it's nice to non french speaking people in general :\
<dylan>
at least I can understand it to a degree. Now, back before there was a very large English-speaking ruby community... japanese is incomprehensible.
<zmdkrbou>
(huhu this sentence wasn't even decent english :p)
<zmdkrbou>
ergl, people speak japanese on ruby channels ?
<dylan>
No, but lots of documentation was only in japanese.
<zmdkrbou>
:(
<dylan>
with ocaml, there's still some french-only docs, but I can read those. Romance languages arn't hard.
<dylan>
(Except romanian!)
* zmdkrbou
's quite surprised that there are french-only docs
<dylan>
well, web pages.
<dylan>
and this was also a few years ago.
<zmdkrbou>
what kind of web-pages ?
<dylan>
different 3rd-party modules and stuff. Nothing I use currently.
<dylan>
Also, I seem to remember the source code for the standard library has comments in a mix of french and english

ahah, that may be true :)
<zmdkrbou>
and pierre weis is probably the only person in the world who uses letters with accents in his code :p
<dylan>
ocaml allows latin-1 identifiers?
<zmdkrbou>
yep :)
<zmdkrbou>
(i think so)
<zmdkrbou>
(i'm not sure in fact :p)
<dylan>
val baño : int = 1
<smimou>
but not utf8 unfortunately :(
<zmdkrbou>
ocaml sucks at utf8 iirc
<zmdkrbou>
hehe, let é = "bli" ;; doesn't work in my toplevel because of utf8 term :\
<dylan>
I still refuse to use utf8 terms because a) they're too slow and b) mutt breaks.
<zmdkrbou>
mine 1) is not slow 2) doesn't break mutt :)
<dylan>
It makes the threading look bad.
<dylan>
I also like to have several thousand lines of text scroll a second without it looking weird.
