<Camarade_Tux> hmmm, I'm getting an error with ocamlbuild but I don't think I changed my code, I upgraded ocaml however (godi), anyone know what it could be ?
<Camarade_Tux> + ocamlfind ocamldep -package unix -package str -package pxp -syntax camlp4o -modules src/ocamlgir.ml > src/ocamlgir.ml.depends
<Camarade_Tux> ocamlfind: When using -syntax, the META variable 'preprocessor' must be set
<Camarade_Tux> I rolled back to an earlier commit and I still have the problem so I guess this must be new
<Camarade_Tux> (and not on my end)

<Camarade_Tux> gah, finally found the problem : I was missing a syntax package
<Camarade_Tux> the _tags for ocamlbuild support should fail hard when a package isn't found
<Camarade_Tux> s/ocamlbuild/ocamlfind/

<thelema> Camarade_Tux: I agree it's disappointing that it doesn't, but that's mostly a factor of how it's implemented and what ocamlbuild does when it doesn't know a tag
* thelema wonders if it's possible to have "important" tags
<thelema> that must match

<Camarade_Tux> thelema, it should be possible to do that in the _tags file too I think (but I know almost nothing about ocamlbuild)
<Camarade_Tux> (* and the module you had forgotten it even existed : Filename *)
<Smerdyakov> Who forgets about [Filename]? I use it all the time in OCaml.
<thelema> tags is completely declarative, just saying to apply these tags to the compilation of those files
<thelema> currently ocamlbuild ignores tags it doesn't know about
<thelema> and the ocamlfind extensions just add pkg_foo tags for all the packages in the system

<Camarade_Tux> I do I sense the following is going to result in a syntax error... "type soup_h_t_t_p_version = | 1_0| 1_1" ?
<Camarade_Tux> working across several languages ain't funny ='(

<tar_> Does OCaml let you have types like "type xxx = int | float" without constructors? A type like "everything that has type a or b"
slash__ has quit ["Lost terminal"]
<blue_prawn> I don't think so
<julm> tar_: you could do that if you're using polymorphic variant types, though.
slash_ has quit [Read error: 101 (Network is unreachable)]
<tar_> julm: This is great, thanks.
<Smerdyakov> julm, I wouldn't say that polymorphic variants enable that. You still need to apply constructors.
<tar_> It's about what I was looking for though
<Smerdyakov> You should try to use regular variants instead of polymorphic variants whenever possible.
<julm> Smerdyakov: when I said "if you're using p.v.t." I meant if instead of {int} and {float} you were using p.v.t.
<blue_prawn> something you could do is to put the type 'a in the interface of the function, then in your function you can do blackmagic with the module Obj
<blue_prawn> but this is not recommanded
<julm> at all
