<Kakadu> Any ideas about this camlp4 error? http://groups.google.com/group/fa.caml/msg/b172a2df2ed5bd1f?hl=en
<avsm> Is ($) a custom function you have defined Kakadu ?
<avsm> if you're using camlp4, it's a reserved identifier for antiquotations, so rename your function to something else not involving dollars
<Kakadu> avsm: I don't write any code. It the newest sources of Janestreet's core_extended
<Kakadu> newest == 107 version

<emma> hi ocaml community ; i'm new to the language and was wondering if anyone could offer tips for designing programs in an ML
<emma> (i'm a lisp programmer)
<everyonemines> emma: What problems are you having?
<emma> organization
<everyonemines> What I mean is, I don't know why the basic structure of the program would be different vs lisp.
<emma> I'm wanted to try writing a program that I have in a lisp in Ocaml to try to leverage the typing
<everyonemines> ah, the type system
<NaCl> ah, the type system
<emma> A lot of how I approach a problem is influenced by using macros and keywords and symbols
<everyonemines> Records are a good way to organize bundles of values.
nimred_ has joined #ocaml

<NaCl> except that no two records can contain a value with the same name
<everyonemines> Take a look at this as an example, http://www.ffconsultancy.com/languages/ray_tracer/code/ray.ml
<NaCl> that may not exactly be the best "new user" example
<NaCl> well, if you don't look at the innards of the functions too much
<everyonemines> Just look at the 1st part.
<emma> I read the first few chapters of the O'Reilly Ocaml book that's online
<emma> and had been looking for open source software written in OCaml
<emma> to get a better idea of how people structure programs
<emma> thanks for the link, btw
