does anyone know of any (F#-like) type providers for ocaml?
<kerrhau>
that support more than json?

I want to have a type that contains a list of tuples, anyone know how to do that?
<octachron>
[1,"one"; 2, "two"] : (int * string) list ?
<M-martinklepsch>
ah damn, I just realized how to do it as well: (string * float) list
<M-martinklepsch>
thanks octachron :)

Hello, all. I've gotten tired of Haskell and all of its complexities, and so I was thinking of trying out Ocaml. I've been starting to study the language, but before I invest too much time into that, I was curious to look at libs for developing a relatively simple website (HTML/CSS, will be trying to avoid JS wherever possible). Mostly, I'll just need authentication/access-control and read/write to a
<JazzyEagle>
database. Any recommendations of what to look at?

You may find asking on the OCaml discourse works better.
<pmetzger>
(There is more of an active community there for answering questions like this.)
<pmetzger>
And I, too, found OCaml more comfortable (for lack of a better word) than Haskell.
<pmetzger>
BTW, there's several OCaml to Javascript tools for front end work.

<JazzyEagle>
I noticed that. I'm not sure why everyone loves JS so much. I can see small tasks how it can help, but it's not like I want to write an entire site in JS or anything.
<JazzyEagle>
Most of what I need is relatively static, and with some web framework as a backend and connecting to the db, i don't know much of what I need JS for.
<pmetzger>
Well, you need code running in the front end to do animations, AJAX type editor widgets, interactivity, etc.
<pmetzger>
Javascript lets you do it but it's horrid.
<JazzyEagle>
That's why i typically try to avoid JS. I won't really be doing any animations (and if so, I'd be trying to stick to what CSS can do)
<pmetzger>
The real problem these days is that kids who learned basic javascript to write web front end stuff now want to use it for _everything_, and it isn't even good for the front end.
<pmetzger>
Anyway, ask on the discourse site.
<JazzyEagle>
The only thing I thought of using it for (unless I can find a better way) is that it's for a web radio station I'm working on putting together, and I may want to use some JS to update some "currently playing" label.
<JazzyEagle>
It doesn't appear that the audio tag itself is robust enough to do something like that.
<JazzyEagle>
Thanks for the point to the Discourse page. I am running out of time to ask on there now, but I'll poke around there when I have some more time. Have a great day!!
