fyi, i explained to mike that opal is new and that it will most certainly grow. it is essentially unfair to judge opal's userbase at this point being so early in the game. further i told him that it's going to be akin to supporting regular ruby as it's goal is to execute ruby as is. perhaps they want some preexisting graphic library support, etc. i don't know, but i thought folks would appreciate the heads up

ylluminate: I dont follow - are they using ruby in their desktop app?
wmnnd has joined #opal
<ylluminate>
i don't know about their actual implementation of the software; they generate code. right now they generate javascript and html + css, but they are open to supporting other output languages if there is enough demand
<meh`>
adambeynon, can we call the files array/inheritance.rb and string/inheritance.rb?

meh`: what country are you in?
<meh`>
dragonkh, Italy
<dragonkh>
ah as well as elia?
<meh`>
yes
<dragonkh>
do you know each other?
<meh`>
nope, only met him once at a conference where he was presenting Opal
<dragonkh>
I'm from London - I want to meetup with some other people who are using opal in the London area - know anyone?
<meh`>
I remember adambeynon being around there, but I'm not sure
<adambeynon>
Wales ;)
<adambeynon>
dragonkh: not sure if anyone else is from London
<meh`>
all I remembered is you're one hour behind
<dragonkh>
adambeynon - where are you from?
<adambeynon>
dragonkh: Swansea
<dragonkh>
I'm thinking of making a meetup.com meetup group for opal in London - as I would like to meet other people who like to work on it in person - is that ok? I'm not sure if would be too specific though - there might be nobody!
<adambeynon>
dragonkh: worth asking! I can retweet it as well, that might help
<dragonkh>
I have visions of being in a room by myself with pizza and beer hahah!!
<adambeynon>
getting quite a few followers now..
<adambeynon>
dragonkh: aslong as you have pizza + beer, it cant go wrong
<dragonkh>
adambeynon: ok I'll set one up and see if anyone signs up - it would be awesome if tweet it too
<adambeynon>
busier than any Swansea meetups :) went to a web-dev meetup a few months ago, and apparently the 5/6 of us there was "a busy night"
<adambeynon>
lol no, thats not one of ours :P
<dragonkh>
we provide free pizza and beer and try to host in big companies HQ - next one is at net-a-porter and previous ones were at ThoughtWorks and Which? magazine
<dragonkh>
so it makes it easier to get people along

whats it called? Opal.rb perhaps?
<dragonkh>
Ruby Opal.rb London
<dragonkh>
as the name
<adambeynon>
"Opal.rb London" should do it
<dragonkh>
adambeynon: have you done a presentation at a ruby conf or euruko or know any who has on Opal ? It would be nice to link the slides to the meetup group as well as the opal page
<adambeynon>
dragonkh: yeap, elia did a couple of presentations at various ruby meetups, and rubyday
<adambeynon>
meh`: it picked up the GH.9 in the url
<meh`>
yes
<meh`>
I know
<dragonkh>
awesome :)
<dragonkh>
If a few peopel sign up - maybe I can persuade someone to come and give us a presentation then ;)
<dragonkh>
London is lovely in the summer ;)
<dragonkh>
right what are member of the meetup called?
<dragonkh>
opalers? opalies?
<dragonkh>
opalites?
<dragonkh>
opalees?
<dragonkh>
I quite like opalites
<dragonkh>
ok going with Opalites
<adambeynon>
dragonkh: opalites +1
<fkchang>
dragonkh: If watching the rubyconf video start with https://vimeo.com/82573680 and then follow the link in the description for the rest. youtube cut off all sound because of the music, so confreaks had to edit it out. The beginning is much better w/music
<dragonkh>
fkchang: awesome thanks
<dragonkh>
ok - here is the meetup group - feel free to join up :) :) and maye someone will turn up at one in the future :)
<fkchang>
dragonkh: I'll join on the off change I'm ever in London when you have a meeting (or in London period)
<dragonkh>
sure - I don't mind who joins - as long as some of them are able to come at some point :)
<meh`>
dragonkh, code that works on a project but not in another
<dragonkh>
meh`: ah the elusive coding issue!!
<dragonkh>
meh`: I have had a super frustrating day today with code as well - my current day job is scala - and it works on the principle of most surprise lol!

<dragonkh>
elia - how was Euroku? I presented at most of the very first 6 - but then life,wife and babies took over - so haven't been since 2009
<elia>

<dragonkh>
we took him to a Japanese restaurant in Vienna once and apparently it wasn't so good lol
<dragonkh>
well I gotta go get started on the list of incredibly boring tasks my wife has assigned me! lol - arg this chat is logged - hope she never reads it !!!
<dragonkh>
