i think i tested the headset port mic pin on my C201 (with discord web thingy on chromium actually) sometime recent (so on 5.4?) but i'll see later if it works

urjaman: I've done some more testing, and the microphone does work, but a lot of static gets picked up. I've got a pretty mangled screen hinge, so I think it's a hardware issue.

okay there's something funky about the built-in mic going on
<urjaman>
i'm running the discord mic test in chromium, and used pavucontrol to switch to the built-in mic (since my speakers are bust anyways i need the headset to hear anything)
<urjaman>
at first it would only capture like rough case vibrations, and then i went just looking around the VEYRON_I2S card in alsamixer
<urjaman>
and _i think_ at the point where i toggled "DMIC Mux" from DMIC to ADC and back to DMIX, the internal mic started sounding just fine
<urjaman>
but i wasnt making much sound at that moment so i'm not sure if it was that ...
<urjaman>
(i dont even know what that thing does, i just wanted to know the options it had...)
<urjaman>
i guess i'll need to power this thing off and test again to see if this is reproducable
<urjaman>
but later, now i need breakfast lol

Whenever I see VEYRON_I2S and alsamixer I’m reminded of how I initially fried the right speaker on my Chromebook by toggling things without knowing what they did trying to get sound
<urjaman>
yeah i'm no longer afraid of that since for ???? reasons they're gone (i think i never purposefully went knobbling them back when the speakers did something, just let pulseaudio and alsa ucm do their thing)
<urjaman>
also i think the main thing is to keep playback path DC blocking enabled? but that's just me thinking

also if i ever put any built-in speakers to the C201, i'm gonna solder some decent-valued SMD caps inline with them (they might not bass much after that, but who cares about that with internal speakers...)
<urjaman>
(put new ones that is...)
