<beneroth>
your distro package appears to miss @lib/el/, its present in the version above
<beneroth>
follow the instructions in the INSTALL to build and install it. picolisp requires picolisp to be built, so you can use your present global install for that
<Regenaxer>
Hi beneroth!
<Regenaxer>
Hi razzy!
<beneroth>
it might be possible that you get a weird error because of "flood" function during building, because your version is quite a bit old, in that case download the corresponding .s file
<beneroth>
(described in INSTALL)
<Regenaxer>
I wonder if pil64 works on raspian meanwhile - "16.12.8 C" is 32 bit
<razzy>
oh so many problems :D
<razzy>
imho is rapsbian arm64
<beneroth>
razzy, you can also just take the @lib/el/ from the current release and continue working with your present installation if you don't like to build and update your install :)
<razzy>
lol, will do
<Regenaxer>
arm64 is perfect, but the OS still seems 32 bits (?)
<beneroth>
the "flood" thing was a one-time change, introduction of new built-in function "flood" which then started to get used in the build process, so the build process fails now if you have an such old version of picolisp that it doesn't have the 'flood function. easy to fix with the *.s file.
<razzy>
i would use local install :]
<beneroth>
picolisp releases rarely contain any breaking changes. usually it's just extensions (additional stuff) and seldom a bug fix (which usually doesn't require any changes in programmer code)
<Regenaxer>
yes, "flood" was a very stupid error of mine
<Regenaxer>
by using it in the build process
<beneroth>
reading @doc/ChangeLog is recommended though
<beneroth>
:)
<razzy>
Regenaxer: why not remove flood problem/
<razzy>
<
<beneroth>
@doc/ChangeLog contains all changes (present in the rolling release), @CHANGES only contains a summary and is only updated for a "real" release (new download on https://software-lab.de/down.html not just a update of the rolling release) - right Regenaxer ?

razzy, 'flood' was a new function
<Regenaxer>
used too early while still old releases were out there
<Regenaxer>
'flood' was introduced 22may16
<razzy>
ah
<Regenaxer>
So in fact "16.12.8 C" should be OK
<beneroth>
in that cause, sorry for the irritation. I wasn't sure when it was introduced and too lazy to look it up.
<Regenaxer>
np
<Regenaxer>
Good that you thought of the possibility

my job is training me to try to think about every possibility. leaks into my everyday life. sometimes helpful, sometimes only annoying, sometimes both :D
<Regenaxer>
I know that too. Looking both left and right before crossing a one-way street
<razzy>
beneroth: do you asign propability distribution there?
<beneroth>
I try to.
<razzy>
very helpfull
<beneroth>
hope for the best, prepare for the worst.
<beneroth>
I often hate to be right in hindsight.
<beneroth>
Regenaxer, exactly, nice wording!

Regenaxer: well, i guess 64bit source on arm64 is working fine. but i heavily upgraded my RPI pi@raspberrypi:~/.pil/pil64/picoLisp/picoLisp $ ./pil -version -bye
<razzy>
<razzy>
18.8.3
<Regenaxer>
Perfect!
<beneroth>

someone linked me these, they're not strictly pil related, but a damned fun read nonetheless
