lavaflow: It's possible for any of {Geiser, Dr Racket, Racket Mode} to be _somewhat_ slower than command-line racket. How much, depending on various settings.

I have Racket Mode warn, if it sees you use time or time-apply used in errortrace annotated code, that you probably want to time things with cmd line racket instead. :)

And that's not necessarily worthless, but before you (say) do any micro-optimizations, it's worth double-checking with plain racket.

there are a few things I'll need to do before I can get an objective picture of what's going on. right now the perf of this app really depends on how well the cache is primed and I don't have any instrumentation on that yet.
