<gb_master> hello
<gb_master> anybody got gentoo running on rr?
<mrueg> gb_master: yes
<gb_master> wow
<gb_master> do you remember the steps?
<mrueg> gb_master: did you send me a email some days ago?
<gb_master> nope
<gb_master> why?
<mrueg> gb_master: someone else asked the same ;)
<gb_master> hehehe
<gb_master> you could forward me the reply :)
<mrueg> gb_master: well i haven't
<mrueg> just lacking time to do it ;)
<gb_master> haha
<gb_master> well, if you remember the steps, I can perform them in real time
<mrueg> i wanted to document them there
<mrueg> it is not that hard
<gb_master> I'd like to install it on the SD card
<gb_master> I don't know if you did the same
<mrueg> just download the armv7 stage3 tarball, untar it to your microsd
<gb_master> problem is: how do I make the SD bootable?
<mrueg> gb_master: i left the kernel on the nand
<mrueg> or wait did I?
<gb_master> hehe
<gb_master> so
<gb_master> I format the SD in fat, right?
<mrueg> no
<mrueg> ext4 is fine
<gb_master> cool
<mrueg> i don't have my radxa here currently.
<mrueg> i can take a look at it tomorrow and finish the documentation in the wiki
<gb_master> :D
<gb_master> cool
<gb_master> well, stage3 is extracted now :)
<gb_master> what should I flash with rkflashkit?
<mrueg> iirc you just format your microsd
<mrueg> so you have a boot partition, swap and root
<mrueg> format boot ext4, root ext4, swap swap
<mrueg> then extract the stage3 to the root partition
<mrueg> copy a ubuntu kernel to the boot ext4
<mrueg> and update the parameter via rkflashkit

<gb_master> how do I update the parameter?
<gb_master> no parameter partition
<gb_master> ok, done
<gb_master> rkflashkit seems to confirm :)
<gb_master> is it normal that, after the dd of boot-linux-latest.img, the partition is not recognized as ext4 anymore?
<gb_master> gparted lists that as unknown

<Astralix1> gb_master, rk loader behaves different then uboot. With beaglebone you can format your SD with some partitons and throw in, kernel, dtb, initramfs and have rootfs on the second partiton.
<Astralix1> RK Loader works with images and therefore needs the first part of the memory filles with these images. The rootfs can still be a normal partiton and you can mount it easy on your PC.
<gb_master> @Astralix1 you tried to get gentoo working, as well?
<Astralix1> I have a prototype radxa, so I am currently stuck at the kernel...
<Astralix1> I had only a basic lubuntu and xubuntu running, but never tested gentoo
<gb_master> :(
<Astralix1> But it should not be that difficult... If the kernel boots up, you should be able to get any linux flavor going you like
<Astralix1> What type of board do you have?
ganbold_ has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
<gb_master> radxa rock r2, I'd say
<gb_master> problem is that I can't get anything running :(
<Astralix1> hmm... did you try to flash at least the basic pre-configured images from rr site?
<Astralix1> what rr do you have? Pro or Lite?
<gb_master> pro
<gb_master> actually I'm realizing that not even android on the NAND starts anymore
<Astralix1> ok, do you have serial connection?
<gb_master> I'm tryin to reflash the NAND
<gb_master> nope, I don't have it, sadly

<Astralix1> It is hard to guess, where it breaks, if you do not see what it does
<Astralix1> But if you flash an update.img, it should boot.
<Astralix1> The update.img should contain everything including the loader.
<gb_master> android's back :)
<Astralix1> So try again with one of the linux images
<Astralix1> Then check if you can boot gentoo by just exchanging the rootfs
<Astralix1> naobsd, trying to compile as described here http://wiki.radxa.com/Rock/Booting_Linux end in compiler errors... I love it
<gb_master> well, I'll try it tomorrow
<gb_master> gotta go now
<gb_master> thanks everybody :)
<Astralix1> jep, sure
<Astralix1> welcomed
