<sf-slack2> <nikolaus.luhrs> I'm confused on how to instantiate a PLL from verilog (or any dedicated hardware block for that matter) when using project Project Trellis.
<daveshah> nikolaus.luhrs: have a look at the ecppll tool
<sf-slack2> <nikolaus.luhrs> Ahhhhh ok, that makes sense.
<sf-slack2> <nikolaus.luhrs> I suppose there wouldn't be a good way to standardize that across fpga families anyway
<daveshah> No, usually there is some similarity between vendors (n.b. ice40 and ecp5 are effectively different vendors) but not beyond that
<sf-slack2> <nikolaus.luhrs> Project x-ray hasn't really gotten to PLLs yet right? I guess I'd like to see tools for blocks like this kept as similar as possible across vendors. That way portability of work would be maximized.

<jiapei100> no mattee what... if I can comtribute JUST a little bit, I'd love to contribute ✌✌

<LongerVision> @hackerfoo Thank you very much... check it out ALREADY... Trying to catch up ASAP...
<hackerfoo> LongerVision: Please let me know if you would like me to explain any of the documentation. It would be nice to have translations for others.
<LongerVision> @hackerfoo you are NOT a robot, aren't you? ^_^
<hackerfoo> LongerVision: No, but it is not the first time I've been asked that :)
<LongerVision> ^_^ How big is your team? Looks like you've used so many languages... ^_^
<LongerVision> BTW, you know RISC-V? What's your plan to compete against it?
<hackerfoo> This is me: http://hackerfoo.com/about.html
<tpb> Title: HackerFoo Writes Stuff Here - About (at hackerfoo.com)
<sorear> symbiflow and riscv are complementary, not competitors, and many of us work on both
<hackerfoo> LongerVision: RISC-V is great. Symbiflow is about FPGAs, though. You can implement RISC-V on an FPGA: https://github.com/cliffordwolf/picorv32
<tpb> Title: GitHub - cliffordwolf/picorv32: PicoRV32 - A Size-Optimized RISC-V CPU (at github.com)
<tpb> Title: People · SymbiFlow · GitHub (at github.com)
<hackerfoo> There's about 10 active contributors.
<LongerVision> https://github.com/cliffordwolf/picorv32 ALREADY focked... But, do I need a particular board for that???

space_zealot has quit [Ping timeout: 244 seconds]
<sorear> people have gotten it working on a bunch of different boards, even on ASIC
<LongerVision> BTW, what's the relationship between IRC and SLACK? It looks these two have som similarities....
<hackerfoo> LongerVision: What boards do you have?
<hackerfoo> We have a Slack mirror: https://symbiflow.slack.com/
<hackerfoo> You can use either one.

<hackerfoo> We are working on getting Linux running on a LiteX generated SoC: https://github.com/orgs/SymbiFlow/projects/17#card-24595720
<tpb> Title: LiteX/Linux on Arty - Burndown · GitHub (at github.com)
<tpb> Title: GitHub - enjoy-digital/litex: Build your hardware, easily! (at github.com)
<hackerfoo> LiteX includes RISC-V cores.
<LongerVision> I‘ve got a HiFive1 Rev B01, which is an AVR, it does NOT support Linux....
<sorear> what about it? it’s not a fpga
<LongerVision> It is NOT... It seems SiFive can design your own chip based on FPGA online ....
<tpb> Title: Design - SiFive (at scs.sifive.com)
<LongerVision> I cannot afford that HiFive Unleashed, so expensive....
<LongerVision> HiFive1 Rev B is an MCU core, which is much cheaper
<sorear> much smaller chip on an older node
<LongerVision> So, if I want to test this symbiflow, which low-cost board do you recommend?
<LongerVision> LiteX also supports RISC-V
<sorear> I don’t know why you keep bringing up RISC-V and SiFive
<LongerVision> Sorry ... I'm for sure NOT advertising for them...

<hackerfoo> LongerVision: If you are interested in RISC-V, you might look for the Sipeed MAix locally: https://www.seeedstudio.com/sipeed
<tpb> Title: Sipeed MAIX: RISC-V AI Dev Boards and Peripherals (at www.seeedstudio.com)
<hackerfoo> But if you're interested in working on Symbiflow, I suggest getting a BASYS 3.
<hackerfoo> That is what we develop on.
<hackerfoo> That said, you can still contribute without a board. You'll just need a Linux computer and Vivado 2017.2
<LongerVision> Does Vivado requires a license?
<hackerfoo> Not for the free (WebPACK) version.
<hackerfoo> That's all you need.
<tpb> Title: FPGA Architecture Basics RapidWright 2019.1.1-beta documentation (at www.rapidwright.io)
<LongerVision> Thank you so so so much 👌👌👌
<LongerVision> sipeed? wow... that is a ShenZhen company 👍👍
<hackerfoo> Yes. I believe seeedstudio is also in ShenZhen.
<hackerfoo> You also should be able to find Artix7 boards locally, if not the BASYS 3.
