<jochensp> Hi, I'm running CM10.2 on a i9100g and can't connect to a 5GHz wifi, is this a known problem?

<Jiangyi> jochensp: Can I get a log?
<jochensp> Jiangyi: sure, logcat *:V enough?
<Jiangyi> Just paste the whole thing heh

<jochensp> Jiangyi: I can still give you the complete log, just would have to clean it up of sensitive data a little
<Jiangyi> jochensp: I do remember people having problems with 5GHz wifi, and afaik we never got to the bottom of it
<Jiangyi> Samsung's bcmdhd drivers are a hack-fest heh
<jochensp> ^^
<jochensp> so, how can I help?
<Jiangyi> Anything else interesting in the log?
<jochensp> Jiangyi: only a lot of k9 crashes due to disconnected wifi
<Jiangyi> Well, that's gonna be fun to track down then :-|
<Jiangyi> If we can track it down at all
<Jiangyi> jochensp: I can look into the differences between the driver source in different drops from Samsung
<jochensp> should I try a different CM to see if it works?
<Jiangyi> You can, but I doubt it would work, you never know though :-P
bbelos has quit [Quit: leaving]
<jochensp> would the brcmfmac driver work maybe?
<Jiangyi> Don't know
<Jiangyi> We did try swapping in bcmdhd drivers from GNex before, but that didn't work at all
<Jiangyi> Samsung's doing something really weird with memory allocations

<jochensp> Jiangyi: so as far as I understand, the kernel sources for the i9100g are in samsung_t1 witch is an old version of android-omap-tuna with the source drops on top, right?
<Jiangyi> jochensp: No, it's just the Samsung source drops with a few modifications on top to make it play nice with CM
<Jiangyi> Samsung based it on top of the 3.0.31 kernel from OMAPZoom, then pulled in a bunch of changes from mainline
<Jiangyi> Very different from the tuna kernel source, mainly because OMAPzoom's code is a quite a bit newer
<jochensp> but it has tuna sha1s in the git history
<Jiangyi> jochensp: Yeah, that was a very long time ago
<jochensp> Jiangyi: I see, which git of omapzoom is it?
<Jiangyi> Whenever a Samsung source drop happens, it overwrites everything, leaving the history practically irrelevant
<jochensp> I've seen the commits, is there anyone working on cleaning them up?
<Jiangyi> jochensp: http://git.omapzoom.org/?p=kernel/omap.git;a=shortlog;h=refs/heads/p-android-omap-3.0 <- This one afaik
<Jiangyi> I was trying to start off with this, then figuring out what patches Samsung pulled from mainline, so that we can have a proper commit history
<Jiangyi> ^Nowhere near done though heh
<Jiangyi> School started pounding me with work :-/
<jochensp> do you plan on working on this again?
<jochensp> I can try to help, but I would probably need some help to get me started
<Jiangyi> jochensp: Yeah, when I actually get time heh
<jochensp> will you be around over here to answer questions? Then I will try to work on it
<Jiangyi> What I do is diff the repo against Samsung's source drop, then check whether the changes is made in mainline
<Jiangyi> If it is, I pull that patch from mainline
<Jiangyi> This will basically reduce the changes down to only the Samsung-specific ones that they did to make it work on the i9100g
<Jiangyi> jochensp: Yeah, I have a bouncer, so just ping/msg me whenever :-P
<jochensp> great, what is your base branch, you compare against?
<Jiangyi> I just compare it to cm-11.0 or cm-10.2
<Jiangyi> Base branch would be the one I linked on my github
<jochensp> Jiangyi: did you pull in the ones mentioned in Documentation/final_1137_patch_list.txt already?
<Jiangyi> jochensp: That list is actually very confusing, it's referring to patches before 3.0.31
<jochensp> I see
<Jiangyi> And a lot of them don't even have anything to do with the device
<Jiangyi> I don't get what its purpose is really
<jochensp> I guess it's just random stuff someone put in (like the changes in the x86 code ;) )

<jochensp> Jiangyi: I had a look into bcmdhd, according to the source it's version 1.28.19.8. The only source for it I've found is in the android exynos tree, should I look somewhere else for it?
<Jiangyi> jochensp: drivers/net/bcmdhd I think
<jochensp> in which git?
<Jiangyi> jochensp: Wait, are you looking for the source we're currently using in CM or?
<jochensp> yes
<jochensp> the wifi sources in cm-10.2 are almost the same as in the exynos tree from android
<Jiangyi> That's where our drivers are^
<jochensp> sure, and that's what I'm trying to find in the "official" android sources, right?
<Jiangyi> jochensp: Start by diffing it against Omapzoom's source
<jochensp> did so
<Jiangyi> In the same directory
<Jiangyi> Lots of changes?
<jochensp> yes, did all that
<jochensp> point is, omapzoom only has version 5.90.195.114, but exynos has version 1.28-23 (wich is later)
<jochensp> and cm-10.2 has version 1.28.19.8, which is almost the same as in the exynos branch
<Jiangyi> Exynos branch?
<Jiangyi> Oh
<Jiangyi> Well, that's a 3.4 kernel, so it's going to be newer heh
<Jiangyi> I guess one thing we can try is backporting a 3.4 driver....
<Jiangyi> They did do that for the i9100 I think
