<trogdoro>
man, I wish you could copy multiple lines in irc without it including the username :/
<trogdoro>
thams: if you’re interested in pairing on doing that restructuring, it could be fun
<trogdoro>
thams: and probably wouldn’t take that long
<thams>
Sure. I’m ridiculous-busy right now, but I think things get better for me next week. I’ll start by throwing stuff in for you from this conversation, and maybe leave reorganization of it for next week.
<trogdoro>
thams: cool!
<trogdoro>
thams: an advantage of a “help topics” and “faq” format, is that they could just be unorganized lists
<trogdoro>
the topics won’t necessarily have to be organized into a cohesive order
<trogdoro>
they can be just a title and a description and maybe some steps
<trogdoro>
and could start out small
<trogdoro>
and maybe down the road when there are like 20 or 50 of them, doing some kind of organization (probably by making topics that link to other topics) could be in order
<thams>
good point
<trogdoro>
tags documentation
<trogdoro>
tags: documentation
<trogdoro>
tags: trying to figure out the irc log search
<trogdoro>
for some reason, it won’t find “tag”, but “tags” is fine
<trogdoro>
it could be cool to make notes here in the irc channel, that we can refer people to later
<trogdoro>
using “tags”
<trogdoro>
like, I’m answering an email from a guy about what to do on windows
<chazu>
nice idea. the actual # is kind of superfluous though innit
<trogdoro>
chazu: yeah, I was kind of thinking that as well
<trogdoro>
chazu: on the other hand, the visual distinction it makes is nice
<chazu>
true...*shrug* either way its a nice idea
<trogdoro>
my irc client actually turns #foo into a link to the irc “foo” channel
<trogdoro>
which is slightly unfortunate
<chazu>
haha
<chazu>
irssi ftw
<chazu>
actually irssi confuses me routinely, so disregard
<trogdoro>
:)
<trogdoro>
probably if “hashtag #foo” ends up feeling unintuitive, one of us will come up with something that seems better at some point
<trogdoro>
my first intstinct was to use just “tag: windows”, but the irc log searcher can’t seem to find the word “tag”
<trogdoro>
it uses the mysql full text engine, not sure if that’s related
<trogdoro>
hashtag: windows
<trogdoro>
hashtag #windows
<trogdoro>
hashtag: #windows
<trogdoro>
hmm, dunno
<Sublim3_>
ht #windows ?
<trogdoro>
seems like the string “hashtag” won’t pop up that much in common words talk, which is probably good
<Sublim3_>
right
<trogdoro>
Sublim3_: not bad, but people new to the convention will probably have to ask about it before they get “ht"
<Sublim3_>
agreed, it is less intuitive
<trogdoro>
I’m recommending to the guy with the windows question that he uses Vagrant (or possibly Docker) to install ubuntu 14.04, and pastes the one-line xiki installer in it to use it
<trogdoro>
that should really go into the FAQ, or somewhere in the “$ xsh -help” command
<trogdoro>
but I’m too lazy to do it right now:)
<Sublim3_>
also on the github README :)
<trogdoro>
Sublim3_: indeed, good point
<trogdoro>
it seems much easier to just paste it in here for now, than to put thought into where it should go, and commit it there
<trogdoro>
also, if other people ask and answer questions in this channel...
<trogdoro>
if someone does “hashtag #foo” or whatever, on a line by itself, it’ll be around for posterity
<trogdoro>
so we can give the link to others asking the same question later
<trogdoro>
and it can be added to the documentation later
<trogdoro>
just throwing out ideas - who knows if I’ll actually follow through on this
<trogdoro>
but it seems cool at the moment :)
<trogdoro>
I’ll try it with the windows question
<trogdoro>
Question: I’m a windows user - how do I use Xiki?
