ChanServ changed the topic of ##yamahasynths to: Channel dedicated to questions and discussion of Yamaha FM Synthesizer internals and corresponding REing. Discussion of synthesis methods similar to the Yamaha line of chips, Sound Blasters + clones, PCM chips like RF5C68, and CD theory of operation are also on-topic. Channel logs: https://freenode.irclog.whitequark.org/~h~yamahasynths

<Lord_Nightmare>
ej5: the kensington smart mouse has a motorola microcontroller in it
<Lord_Nightmare>
i'm 95% sure it is an MC68HC05C9A
<ej5>
neat!
<Lord_Nightmare>
try dumping it in a bpmicro programmer as an MC68HC705C9A and it should dump
<Lord_Nightmare>
Mc68HC05C8 and C9 series parts were very popular in the late 80s/early-mid 90s
<Lord_Nightmare>
they were the cmos evolution of the old NMOS MC6805Px series
<Lord_Nightmare>
SC417834P is just a motorola custom part label
<Lord_Nightmare>
inside i'm guessing is a plain old MC68HC05 series part
<Lord_Nightmare>
compare the pinout and where the crystal and power pins are vs the mc68hc05c9 datasheet
<Lord_Nightmare>
is the 8 pin din connector meant to connect to the serial port of a mac?

<Foone>
I seem to remember that some of those have a generic connector because they can take two cables, one that goes to a mac and one that goes to a PC
<Foone>
presumably one cable or the other shorts two pins out and tells the microcontroller to switch protocols

Any chance he could idle in here? (I think I asked this before)
<cr1901_modern>
Also semi-related, I've been _considering_ making a discord bridge, since lots of MAME ppl are on discord rather than IRC (and I've no plans to retire the channel)

balrog: I don't know. Prob not on topic for 1bitsquared
<andlabs>
I can never remember if aaron giles is supposed to be a good person or not
<cr1901_modern>
There is already a discord dedicated to composing w/ yamaha chips. The main reason I don't want to bridge to that (beyond the fact that I don't even know if they're intereted) >>
<cr1901_modern>
is that there is not much overlap in communities and I want to be able to filter ppl who would cause trouble (read between the lines here)
