<lkcl> awesome!!
<hno> yes ld is a very nice & stable tool.
<hno> but usually there is hints before it crashes.
<lkcl> make clean...
<lkcl> yeah. compile errors. make clean time. huh. why is ccache.... darn
<lkcl> i think i forgot the make sun4i_defconfig bit, whoops
<lkcl> diff .config .... sun4i_defconfig looked a beeet beeg... :)
<hno> yes, sun4i_defconfig is just the defconfig bits. Not the full config.
<hno> copy .config config-lkcl

<lkcl> oh ok
<lkcl> yes. duh
<hno> be warned that 3.4 sun4i_defconfig seems to have forgot some bits like USB OTG.
<lkcl> hno: loovely
<lkcl> hno: could you drop me a .config somewhere (the one you built that mini system with for example)
<lkcl> or... anything-that-stands-a-chance-of-working-known-good ? :)
<lkcl> indeed!
<hno> that's missing a bit of other things. But I think you can diff your way to where you want to be.

* mnemoc sad to not see chromeOS talks in google io this year... that means I can forget about the dreamed chromebook pixel with exynos5 octa :(
<RaYmAn> that would be pretty nice
<mnemoc> there should be a new android nexus device, but also a new chromebook
* mnemoc would gladly pay $600 for a "pixel" with exynos 5410... even if it has a pvr crap unit inside
<RaYmAn> yeah - I think the biggest annoyance with samsung arm chromebook is really the screen
rz2k has joined #arm-netbook
mdp has joined #arm-netbook
<ssvb> RaYmAn: and the keyboard, and the very limited storage size which is difficult to extend due to a crappy SD card slot...
<ssvb> IMHO samsung arm chromebook is not a very good choice when trying to re-purpose it as a netbook/laptop
Dessimat0r has joined #arm-netbook
<Guest22510> sure, you cannot cross compile for arm64

<ssvb> zumbi: any computer running linux system and having a reasonable amount of RAM can do this, arm chromebook is not an exception
<zumbi> ssvb: yes, you might be right, but it is not very common to need and arm->arm64 CC
<zumbi> does it build it on gentoo?
<ssvb> I have not specifically tried aarch64, but used gentoo crossdev for generating toolchains for various weird architectures
<ssvb> GCC 4.8 should support aarch64, so it probably works
<ssvb> but what kind of hardware are you going to use for testing the resulting binaries?

<hno> is there any arm64 chips?
<ssvb> hno: presumably zumbi has some use for these binaries, maybe to run in qemu?
<traeak> aarm64 :-p
<traeak> why aarm who knows?
<zumbi> ssvb: there is a fast model provided by ARM
<traeak> aarch64 i guess
<traeak> whatever it is
<zumbi> aarch64 = arm64 (debian)
<traeak> arm64 is definitley what everyone will call it
<zumbi> it is tricky as sometimes you read amd64 instead arm64
<traeak> aarch64 is pretty lame as well
<traeak> "arch" is generic as theyc ome
<zumbi> hno: and, no, there is no arm64 silicon
<traeak> i want someone to start beating up intel at the high end
<traeak> 4000USD for a processor is out of hand
<mnemoc> hno: there are not-cortex arm64 chips since over a year
<traeak> and as i mentioend before the 3930k is more expensive now than when i bought it 18 months ago
<mnemoc> hno: they were showcased in the same even arm presented cortex-a5x
<traeak> non cortex? do they follow the aarch64 spec or just custom 64bit/
<mnemoc> "compatible" with the aarch64 spec, but not designed by arm
<traeak> no reason to be a total slave to arm, right?
<slapin_nb> hi, all!
<slapin_nb> have anybody signed NDA with allwinner?
<slapin_nb> or is there any other way to get information from them?
<slapin_nb> I just want to have insight on DDR controller configuration
<slapin_nb> SDRAM it is
<hno> slapin_nb, you don't get DDR controller details even with a NDA.
* hno have not signed an NDA btw.
<hno> mnemoc, right, found it now. X-Gene from Applied Micro.
<slapin_nb> hno: if I provide chip and schematic details, will they send me the required settings?
<hno> you can always ask.
<slapin_nb> hno: whom should I ask?
<hno> Eva I guess.
<slapin_nb> hno: OK, will do, thanks
<hno> but what makes you think you need special settings?
<hno> are you doing a dual-rank configuration?

<slapin_nb> hno: I want to be flexible - I want to run single-chip 256M x 16 configuration, 2 x 128M x 8 configurations, etc.
<slapin_nb> hno: probably dual-rank, too, as the chips might have different data lengths/placement.

<mnemoc> damn. they gave away intel-powered "chromebootk pixel"s instead of announcing the exynos5410 variant :(
<traeak> gave away to who?
<traeak> sadly i doubt the exynos chrombook is very useful with a straight linux install
<traeak> not as useful as an intel based one
<traeak> blame that entirely on the stupid ecosystem the SOC creators have built
* ssvb blames the shitty keyboard, the software is fixable
<traeak> that would explain why the allwinner a10 is fully supported now
<mnemoc> traeak: to google io attendees

<mnemoc> my x120e uses the same... and it's not horrible... but I still prefer the old school keyboard (available since the early thinkpad days until the x220)
<traeak> yeah, the x220 and previous, i didn't tink those keyboards were all that great
<mnemoc> anyhow... only the pixel and that apple thing has passed the awful 1366x768 barrier
<mnemoc> and that's becoming a killer for me :(
<traeak> for a 12" screen i'm totally okay with 13x7
<traeak> on a 17" screen, yeah it's pretty lame
<traeak> but who would buy a laptop with a 17" screen? yuk
<mnemoc> Turl :p
<mnemoc> but <13" at 2560x1700 feels amazing
<mnemoc> but at $1.5k.... meh

<hno> that's damn small pixels.
<jelly-home> the idea is not to have to care about individual pixels

<hno> and seems I have to do some workarounds in the default u-boot boot command script.. the hush shell in u-boot is broken and fails in quite unexpected (but consistent) manner.
<hno> this affects the automatic selection of the right root device, including when you try to specify root= in uEnv.txt.
<hno> or actually the automatic one works, but fails if you try to set "root=/dev/mmcblk2 rootwait" in uEnv.txt (or the saved environment).
