jelly: yeahhh that was an interestingly naive approach i took there, but it did help

lkcl: are you aware #linux-sunxi exists? as irc channel
<lkcl>
buZz: yes i am.
<buZz>
oh ok
<buZz>
any reason you arent in it then? :P i mean, making a sunxi device, you'd want to, wouldnt you?
<buZz>
didnt mean to pry, just wondered ..

buZz: it's a long story. they moved to non-free infrastructure without inviting me to comment on the consequences of doing so.
<lkcl>
buZz: the sunxi community formed out of the efforts that i inspired, here on arm-netbook
<lkcl>
buZz: after they set up a git repository on github's non-free proprietary infrastructure (which sells your data to the highest bidder)
<lkcl>
buZz: and after they set up the mailing list on google groups (which also sells your data and uses it for advertising purposes)
<lkcl>
buZz: i offered to join their community when the source code for both google groups and github are published as software libre projects. preferably under the AGPLv3+
<lkcl>
buZz: which should tell you everything you need to know :)
<buZz>
thats a lot :P
<buZz>
but ok, i get it now
<buZz>
ty :)
<tanlaan>
Hey I actually still have one of the original A20 prototypes rolling around in a box somewhere with a micro desktop. If I recall correctly, to get them to function I needed to do some physical modification before booting up
<tanlaan>
else I might fry it. Anyone have a link to that post/page? Also I find it hilarious and flattering that the how to open images I made are still being linked to by the website :D
<lkcl>
tanlaan: coool!
<tanlaan>
Hey lkcl, it's been awhile :)
<tanlaan>
about 3 years or so
<lkcl>
tanlaan: allo :)
<lkcl>
tanlaan: i must apologise i don't recognise your irc handle, but i will most likely recognise your email address or an arm-netbook mailing list archive link
<tanlaan>
lkcl: No worries at all, I'm essentially a long time lurker actually >.<
<lkcl>
tanlaan: been head down for so long that a *lot* of stuff has dropped out of my brain
<lkcl>
:)
<tanlaan>
lkcl: Decided I had enough spare cash to buy up a prototype and micro desktop to check it all out, and it ended up sitting on my desk as I watched the development roll on
<lkcl>
coool
<tanlaan>
lkcl: just thought I'd chime in and see if there was anything I could do that would be helpful for the community. As well, did the prototype change between what was originally made and what is getting crowdsourced?
<lkcl>
tanlaan: ohhhh i remember now - you have one of the MEBs, don't you?
<tanlaan>
well crowdfunded that is
<lkcl>
tanlaan: i'm reallly struggling tracking down a mainline linux kernel issue.
<lkcl>
it's somewhere between 4.0.0-rc6 and 4.1
<tanlaan>
What did MEB stand for again?
<tanlaan>
Micro Engineering Board?
<lkcl>
micro engineering board
<lkcl>
yeah you needed to bypass some of the faulty components for the over-voltage protection and just put 5V directly up its bum.
<tanlaan>
Okay sweet, yea I've got one. Essentially the micro desktop board with substantially less PCB
<lkcl>
yeah. like... 20 components or something
<tanlaan>
There was a page at one point that showed the modification you had to do, is it still online?
<lkcl>
tanlaan: probably...
<lkcl>
tanlaan: if you git checkout git.rhombus-tech.net you can do a grep through the entire lot
