<damo22>
geez i hope you guys get funded for EOMA68
<damo22>
i told a few more friends
<damo22>
got it posted in chinese twitter :D
<damo22>
this annoying guy i know doesnt like EOMA68 because he says internal monitor on laptop will need extra converter for VGA -> digital interface
<damo22>
is this true?
<C-Keen>
yeah, on the EOMA68 card is a micro HDMI for the second monitor only due to size constraints
<C-Keen>
and also better resolution
<C-Keen>
but the adapters for that are cheap
<C-Keen>
especially in china :)
<C-Keen>
for the internal monitor? yes probably true as well
<C-Keen>
lkcl knows more
<damo22>
im happy with VGA as a standard for video, its pretty common
<damo22>
but there will be users who complain that they cant connect their high res LCD to it internally without extra converters probably
<C-Keen>
let me look up the standard
<C-Keen>
ah only RGB/TTL behaviour is described, so yes that's true
<damo22>
C-Keen: it just seems a little outdated that A20 SoC has digital pin outputs for LCDs and there will need to be a converter to RGB inside the card for the EOMA68 side, and if you want to connect an LCD to it you will need yet another converter inside the laptop housing...
<C-Keen>
damo22: true but that couldn't have been anticipated. defining RGB/TTL pins is a pretty common thing to do and doing conversion from there is easy
<damo22>
:)
<C-Keen>
the EOMA68 spec has been made to be agnostic to what's actually inside the card
<damo22>
anyway, im not worried
<damo22>
i backed
<C-Keen>
excellent, welcome to the club of visionaries :)
<C-Keen>
damo22: the problem with using another monitor will be power consumption not the connectors
<damo22>
is there a chance that VGA will become obsolete in the next 5 years?
<C-Keen>
inside the laptop
<C-Keen>
well yes, there are already a lot of devices which are missing a VGA port today
<damo22>
i hope not
<damo22>
:(
<C-Keen>
however the ICs for that are dirt cheap and I don't expect them to be EOL'ed soon due to industry usage
<damo22>
yeh lots of things like TVs and projectors use VGA
<C-Keen>
not the new ones
<damo22>
really?
<C-Keen>
there is no way to get HD resolutions with VGA :)
<damo22>
1920x1080 isnt HD?
<C-Keen>
it is
<damo22>
i get that resolution with a VGA cable
<C-Keen>
alright
<damo22>
its not as crisp as my other monitor on DP
<damo22>
but it does work
<C-Keen>
the crisp part is important for projectors :)
<damo22>
ok
<damo22>
well i can still use the dongle on the card for that
<damo22>
:D
<C-Keen>
hence the micro hdmi :)
<C-Keen>
and if you look at the demo videos it looks just fine
<damo22>
C-Keen: how long have you been involved with this project?
<C-Keen>
I am just a backer like you, advocating it. As I love the idea. I do a bit of embedded systems for work though
<damo22>
nice
<damo22>
i ported a couple of x86 chipsets to libreboot :) i am looking for work though
<lkcl>
damo22: EOMA68 is RGB/TTL not VGA and i'm using an SN75LVDS83b for conversion to LVDS.
<lkcl>
damo22: tell your chinese friend there's a China clone of the SN75LVDS83b, he'll find that funny :)

<damo22>
lkcl: i just read the full story on the crowdsupply site, very very interesting about the west/east negotiations
<lkcl>
damo22: yehhhh ...
<lkcl>
damo22: oh - you saw the discussion on arm-netbook about someone in libreboot wanting to port it to the A20?
<lkcl>
i leave it with you to look up in the archives
<damo22>
thanks
<lkcl>
if they're going to make the attempt you might as well help them :)
<damo22>
it seems that when this is funded and people get their hands on peripherals they can "keep" for next generation, it will be viable to put pressure on east soc manufacturers to hand over source code by making conditional orders?
<damo22>
lkcl: i believe libreboot is going to be a collection of free firmware, based not only on coreboot but also other things like u-boot, so their plan is to integrate the u-boot firmware for the libre tea card into libreboot as an example so it gets maintained with all the other libre firmware... i dont think they have plans to actually port the firmware to coreboot -> libreboot
<damo22>
"you've also said it's OKAY for Intel and AMD to sell NSA spying back-door co-processors in all their products." -- lkcl
<damo22>
Oh, is that what the damagement engine is for?
<C-Keen>
no the remote admin chip they all ship these days has access to RAM and the PHY without knowledge or control of the CPU
<jay_>
for the PFY Laptop Housing Kit for Computer Card do you have a same of the colors, maybe a picture?

Hi! I have just watched very sad documentary about current treatment of workers in Apple's Chinese contractors factories. I immediatelly thought I will share it with my Apple-loving friends. It struck me however that I have got a laptop build by Pegatron (sold by ThinkPenguin) and EOMA68 cards are build in Chinese factories. Am I right in thinking that social resposibility is not what I should advertise when popularizing freedom-respecti

ng hardware among my friends?

for the PFY Laptop Housing Kit for Computer Card do you have a same of the colors, maybe a picture?
<C-Keen>
jay_: same of the colors?
<C-Keen>
what does that mean?
<jay_>
C-Kenn_: for example the laptop colors for the EOMA68 are metalic silber base with translucent screen assembly, "rainbow" lucky dip, alternating green dark purple
<C-Keen>
jay_: the green dark purple one is the one lkcl uses in the videos
<jay_>
C-Keen_: I meant sample of the colors
<jay_>
C-Keen_: does lkcl have some pictures of the other ones?
