<lispmacs[work]>
just curious, my Forth Handbook says that `quit' is supposed to clear the return and data stack, but this does not seem to be the behavior on any implementation
<lispmacs[work]>
data stack certainly does not get cleared
<lispmacs[work]>
a different question: is there a word that checks whether or not a word has been defined?

there ' (tick), but it's undefined what happens if the word isn't found (it probably aborts execution). how it looks up words is implementation specific so any robust use of it necessarily has to be, too

what I was aiming for was a way to check if a marker is defined (and clear it) before defining a marker. However, it seems to work fine to run `markername marker markername'
<lispmacs[work]>
because if markername is not already defined then one just gets a harmless error in the terminal
