<whitequark> Yatekii: a bunch of applets cap at 5 mhz because I wrote a really simple implementation to get things going and it doesn't pipeline nicely
<whitequark> this can and should be fixed now that glasgow uses nmigen, but I'm busy with other things at the moment
<whitequark> the frontend is, well, glasgow. the entire stack is in python and not having vertical integration like that means losing most of what makes glasgow interesting

<Yatekii> whitequark: that's all nice and dandy, but how do I get a nice GUI with an actual trace of the signal then? ;)
<whitequark> what signal exactly?
<whitequark> do you mean you want to debug an applet and would like to see the waveforms? or something else
<Yatekii> whitequark: what you said exactly. or rather not even debug an applet but also just look at the signal.
<Yatekii> when I get a non good decoded UART signal I will need to visually examine the signal ofc to find the mistake.
<whitequark> glasgow run --trace foo.vcd <applet args...>
<whitequark> then you can view it in gtkwave
<whitequark> you could view it in pulseview as well, but pulseview still can't cope with VCD files that have multibit signals, so it's not going to work very well
<Yatekii> ok, very neat, ty!

<Yatekii> hmm is it possible to use glasgow interactively from let's say sigrok?
<Yatekii> or do I always need to generate a VCD file first?
<whitequark> you can't use it interactively from sigrok, no
<whitequark> among other things, the glasgow CLI always drives the entire workflow
