<john_cephalopoda> pie_: That's technically correct, the best kind of correct :D
<pie_> i uh
<Noxz> I have designed my differential rotary stage.. need to figure out what the biggest size I can cut stuff at school
<pie_> Noxz: are you proud of me
<Noxz> I was curious if that was yours or just found on the interwebs
<Noxz> looks interesting.. how well does it focus?
<Noxz> and what kind of masks are you using? or is it not for exposing
<Noxz> but just looking
<pie_> i havent tried yet but i think phones do something special...i mean idk, it focuses.
<Noxz> oh, it's a phone that is mounted?
<Noxz> I didnt get the point of it, I see it now
<Noxz> neat
<pie_> havent tried doing anything yet because im busy showing people pictures of dumb things i do and trying to get the phone MTP protocol crap to mount the drive on linux
<Noxz> screw paying hundreds for a low res camera that hooks into microscopes
<Noxz> I hate the price of them
<Noxz> and resolution
<Noxz> but, of course, a cell phone sensor is nothing like a good 3/4 one
<pie_> Noxz: i know right? what the hell is up with that? is it some special calibrated stuff at least or something?
<Noxz> dude, I dont even think so
<Noxz> not really at least
<pie_> "1) components: phone, random hand "drilled" plastic spacer thing (random origin) with aperture too small because who needs (has) tools anyway, ocular centering mount frame thing made out of sticks, overhead tape mount, microscope. i am way too proud of this."
<pie_> nothing lke a good 3/4 one = ??
<Noxz> I tried looking into a bit but never really got any real sense of: this is awesome
<Noxz> cameras with larger sensor chips alowing more light
<Noxz> instead of trying to focus it on a tiny spot
<Noxz> I think it is like 3/4 of an inch?
<pie_> ah
<Noxz> oh, 4/3, not 3/4?
<Noxz> err, copy-paste fail
<pie_> btw microscope was really dirty and i didnt clean the insides, but it seems to be more or less ok
<Noxz> "The imaging area of a Four Thirds sensor is equal to that of a video camera tube of 4/3 inch diameter"
<pie_> im at a friends place who had this
<Noxz> easy to find lenses for 4/3 setup, which is kinda where I was reintroduced to it when I was looking at exposure stuff w/ masks
<pie_> mtp is connected now i need to figure out why the pictures arent showing up where they should
<pie_> Noxz: any ideas for interesting things to try at 9 x 7 = 63x magnification
<Noxz> umm..
<Noxz> it's more th eopposite in my book: I need magnification to do this one thing, not: I have magnification what can I do
<pie_> ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
<pie_> here we go, 9x mag https://a.uguu.se/wBbb6Hwdccip.jpg
<pie_> huh the high res on this actually aint bad....
<qu1j0t3> nice
<pie_> qu1j0t3: o/ ^.^
<pie_> qu1j0t3: firewall issues so im on webchat, thats why im not on 90% of my channels
<john_cephalopoda> pie_: Yay, a cent coin, made in Germany! :þ
<pie_> john_cephalopoda: im actually in germany right now
<pie_> i need to get a different light, the one it came with is broken but the improvised one gets hot and its probably not good for the optics, i mean idk
<pie_> cant figure out why the mtp file list doesnt update
<pie_> ulness i remount or something
<john_cephalopoda> pie_: Heh, nice, I'm located in Germany, too.
<pie_> i doubt youre nearby but where you at
<pie_> im in aachen
<john_cephalopoda> Würzburg
<pie_> this is max magnification https://a.uguu.se/zg81bxzoGg87.jpg
<pie_> its sidelit
<pie_> dunno if it can be improved
<pie_> badly lt hair follicle https://a.uguu.se/4JmigB4GI8hM.jpg
<pie_> lit
<Noxz> almost forgot about this.. DOI: 10.1021/nn503454h
<pie_> ...could rising hot air cause deposition of junk on an objective lens?
<pie_> because i dont think there was crap on my objective lens earlier
<pie_> i mean i can see crap *somewhere* in the system now, might be unrelated
<pie_> ok i think its in the ocular nvm
<pie_> apparently my upload speed is really bad but i have some obligatory lcd shots :D
<qu1j0t3> ok
<pie_> qu1j0t3: :P
<Noxz> seeing an LCD up close under magnification would be interesting
<Noxz> I need some loupes for home use
<Noxz> all of mine are at school
* qu1j0t3 has a celestron handheld usb microscope
* qu1j0t3 like $30 worth chinesium
<Noxz> yeah, I have a $20 USB "microscope" that I've looked at bugs and whatnot with
<pie_> i mean its not that fancy but still
<Noxz> ah, rectangles.. if square they usually double up on greens (you need 4 pixel colors per pixel and green is the "weakest")
<pie_> why 4?
<Noxz> how else can you amke a square
<pie_> oh xD
<Noxz> w/ 3 primary colors
<pie_> by...making it square?
<Noxz> you double up on one of them
<Noxz> heh, yeah, dont ask me on it
<Noxz> I think CRT uses 4 per
<pie_> i mean just make the pixels longer on the undivided edge? :P
<Noxz> Bayer Filter
<Noxz> "Photographic digital cameras that use a CMOS or CCD image sensor often operate with some variation of the RGB model. In a Bayer filter arrangement, green is given twice as many detectors as red and blue (ratio 1:2:1) in order to achieve higher luminance resolution than chrominance resolution"
<Noxz> it's for cameras..
<pie_> ok maybe that seems like it makes more sense
<Noxz> I knew somethign used 2x green :P
<pie_> sidenote, this was crappy old/er/ phone lcd, i cant take a shot of the fancier phone because its the one taking the pics :P
<Noxz> did I mentioned I scope'd my rebrandded digital calipers and it had the same serial output as others that have done it before as well? going to use them for simple 0.01mm DRO style.. just wish it was no/less contact
<qu1j0t3> pie_: terrific!
<pie_> qu1j0t3: yay
