<Noxz> just fixed my espresso machine.. when I was flipping circuit breakers for the downstairs kitchen a transistor on a new daughtberoard I made for it (to switch from a SCR to an amplified MOSFET for the motor) blew.. luckily that wasnt the first time and I had a few spares ($1.50 part, simple like 7.5A 200V N-channel fet) so I was able to swap one in... but I havent had any fresh coffee beans in quite some time, essentially since school started
Bicyclidine is now known as Bike
<qu1j0t3> what was the fault?
<qu1j0t3> i mean, visibly
<Noxz> well, it occured when I flipped some breakers
<qu1j0t3> ok, so it was just dead?
<Noxz> this FET sends power to the pump
<qu1j0t3> ah
<Noxz> it uses an amplifier circuit to do so
<qu1j0t3> i have to repair mine, but i suspect the fault is plumbing, not electrical
<Noxz> so, even when "off" but plugged in, the pump was going
<qu1j0t3> wow
<Noxz> I built this lil amplifier board from others who have done so to this machine, but it wasnt the first transistor I fried neither
<Noxz> first one was because it was plugge din as I was screwing everything back together and the board hit the chassis grounding osmething
<Noxz> I next day primed a single transistor because I wanted coffee :P
<Noxz> and ordered a few more via digikey
<Noxz> the reason "they" made this lil amplifier circuit is because SCRs have an inherant problem of not working well after some age
<Noxz> anywho, school is going well
