I thought there were 2 working implementations of IPFS: GO & NodeJS. Looks like the Node one isn't a thing yet? https://github.com/ipfs/node-ipfs

mappum, nice. It does look like a lot of progress has been made.

The go implementation is great. But I want an IPFS solution that I can embedd in some other apps. the NodeJS version would presumably be nicer for those scenarios. I'll keep checking in on it

i've install ipfs for the first time, and opened up port 4001 on my router as mentioned in the FAQ repo, i think i'm still having connection issues though. i try going to the localhost:5001/webui interface, and there's no information displaying about my node

and there's no network addresses showing.

i forwarded 4001 tcp on the router.

@daviddias, yes, findprovs in the api wrapper is the method I'm using. Problem is that it's returning a string when should return something streamable (if I'm supposed to parse the streaming json) or already parsed data

VictorBjelkholm: it is very important to distinguish browser and node.js expectations
<daviddias>
because there aren't any streams in the browser
<daviddias>
it would be possible to fake them, but the Node.js streams API is not part of ECMA
<VictorBjelkholm>
daviddias, I understand that. However, the output needs to parsable in one way or another in both implementations, no? Right now, it's not possible since it's a json stream but in a normal string
<daviddias>
you are right. I'm trying to figure out if there was any design decision behind what there is right now :)
<daviddias>
(btw, these things is way I've been vetting to have browser tests and better docs, because some of these things aren't as used and we probably just missed something)
<VictorBjelkholm>
yeah, thought about that as well. My conclusion is that findprovs was added but not tested since it's using the common argCommand without any modifications
ianopolous has joined #ipfs

tried getting my head into fixing this findprovs but couldn't figure out how either
<VictorBjelkholm>
yeah, regarding browser tests, seems like the tests would have to rewritten because of the dependency of the ipfsd-ctl
<VictorBjelkholm>
currently, as is, the test.js cannot run in the browser
<daviddias>
and some of the tests use Node.js streams
<daviddias>
we would have to make them aware of the context
