<shush> should it be /ip4/<local-ip>/tcp/8080

<postables[m]> Anacrolix: if you publish another record with a lifetime that will expire after the old one, you should be able to do the update. I believe you can also define the ttl to help control whether or not your updates will be valid.

<postables[m]> This comment by magik explains ttl vs lifetime https://discuss.ipfs.io/t/clarification-over-ttl-and-lifetime-for-ipns-records/4346/2?u=postables~~ -> anacrolix: if you publish another record with a lifetime that will expire after the old one, you should be able to do the update. <anacrolix> @postables[m] thank you
thomasanderson has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds]
<postables[m]> shush: yes you can set port forwarding, but I don't believe IPFS has any kind of gateway ACL. For that you'll want to have your gateway listen to localhost, and control access through a reverse proxy like nginx

<izak> by the way when requesting a specific file from ipfs network does it get file objects from different nods or it just get it from one node
<ylp> the granularity is one block
<izak> one block from one node ?
<ylp> if your file has more than one block you might get them from different peers
<ylp> yes
<izak> ok, how does it decide which node to fetch the data from
<ylp> I'm not sure but I guess its related to the kademlia distance https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kademlia

<ToxicFrog> Ok, based on that the main difference is that IPFS is not integrated with any cryptocurrency, it's just a distributed immutable content-addressed store + mutable name resolution service. Personally, I consider that a point in its favour.
<ToxicFrog> I haven't used eth-swarm so I can't comment on how much easier/harder it is to set up or the like.
<ToxicFrog> I am currently using ipfs for exactly the purpose you described, except the "other peer" is end users over HTTP, not other IPFS nodes.
