<LordFenixNC[m]> should have a Help section for NOOBs like me that are stumbling around with this lol...
<LordFenixNC[m]> Just have a question cause no idea if im doing this right... I set up my IPFS i started daemon... then open a 2nd CMD window and did ipfs pin add HASH and its just seems stuck.... does it take forever to pin or did something hang?
<LordFenixNC[m]> does the CMD window hang for the amount of time it takes to DL and Pin the file or did i screw up something...
<vexl[m]> you can do ipfs pin add HASH --progress, that shows a bit more info. But it takes some time usually when pinning
<LordFenixNC[m]> i will need to open Another CMD right?
<vexl[m]> yeah
<LordFenixNC[m]> so hanging is to be expected ok
<LordFenixNC[m]> thanks for the Extra code ill tyr that now
<vexl[m]> how big is the pin?
<vexl[m]> np
<LordFenixNC[m]> when i uploaded it to d.tube was under 500mb
<LordFenixNC[m]> but they dont like me using them so i figured out how to use Gdrive as a NODE so trying to pin all my stuff so i dont lose it
<vexl[m]> yeah I pinned a folder of pictures around 380MB today and it took forever
<LordFenixNC[m]> -Fetched/Processed 0 nodes
<LordFenixNC[m]> its been over 20min i do something wrong?
<vexl[m]> idk doesn't sound good, try with something smaller to test?
<vexl[m]> like a text file
<LordFenixNC[m]> you got anything?
<LordFenixNC[m]> lol
<LordFenixNC[m]> cause i kinda just started learning this 2 days ago just because i stumbled onto Dtube trying to find a Video host for my website
<vexl[m]> QmPySXF1QsFGXz3S6dkB5wjcvgeR9PAYm88THMu49zkhQM
<LordFenixNC[m]> then started getting spammed by their bots so figured be safe than sorry
<vexl[m]> yeah idk a lot but doesn't dtube stop hosting your videos after a while?
<LordFenixNC[m]> if your stuff gets downvoted allot
<vexl[m]> so people pin them themselves
<vexl[m]> oh i see
<LordFenixNC[m]> but found out you can pin yourstuff and can still use them as a LINK host
<vexl[m]> that's cool, i tried applying for a free dtube account
<vexl[m]> but still havent received an email
<LordFenixNC[m]> still find it screwed up they have dedicated bots to downvote you
<LordFenixNC[m]> how long ago?
<vexl[m]> bots owned by dtube?
<vexl[m]> like a few weekjs
<LordFenixNC[m]> steemit/dtube yeah
<vexl[m]> *edit:* ~~like a few weekjs~~ -> like a few weeks
<vexl[m]> wow lol
<LordFenixNC[m]> takes almost a month
<vexl[m]> ahh that's why, thanks
<LordFenixNC[m]> yeah they dont like me at all they downvote EVERYTHING i say or post
<vexl[m]> how many videos do you have? I can pin a few, ive got 400GB vps
<LordFenixNC[m]> 44
<LordFenixNC[m]> just 1 anime
<LordFenixNC[m]> 22 in english 22 sub
<LordFenixNC[m]> its fine
<LordFenixNC[m]> i have 9 Gdrives encrypted
<LordFenixNC[m]> if i can get this working
<LordFenixNC[m]> i have a 1gbit server and 9 unlimited accounts
<vexl[m]> nice
<LordFenixNC[m]> Hey if you can help me ill pin your stuff FREE
<LordFenixNC[m]> as a thank you
<vexl[m]> i don't have much, but sure i can try to help
<LordFenixNC[m]> if you like i can send you my Rclone config so you can simulate what im dealing with
<shoku[m]1> Hey guys, I made this channel info ipfs-dev and made another channel for ipfs. Since Matrix and IRC is more dev orientated, it'll help and prevent us from flooding with regular questions. Thanks for the idea LordFenixNC

<elux> im trying to use ipfs node as an inbox for new messages of a staticly named queue. Objects can be created with a link to the inbox node -- but, how can the inbox node become aware of the nodes pointing at it just by querying the IPFS network?
<elux> kinda like a directory where anyone can write files/data too ..
<Swedneck> sounds like something pubsub is useful for
<elux> definitely. except what if the "inbox" subscriber isn't listening at the time a new msg comes in..?
<elux> pubsub isnt persistent

<shoku[m]1> isn't it?
<shoku[m]1> Is there a way to use a gateway for that?
<elux> wouldnt make sense for it to be persistent.. its just a p2p pub-sub transport -- someone feel free to correct me here tho
<elux> the gateway just is a way to bootstrap your node to the network, or use it as a websocket relay, etc. but, i dont see it doing message persistence
<shoku[m]1> That's interesting, I just assumed all ipfs things were persistent
<shoku[m]1> I guess it's because somehow I keep thinking blockchain-like in my head
<elux> it would be possible to add persistence, but pubsub is first a transport, then persistence would be a layer ontop of that -- i'll do some googling to double check ipfs' design
spinza has quit [Quit: Coyote finally caught up with me...]
<Swedneck> i mean someone would have to store the data
<Swedneck> maybe nodes could opt to store pubsub stuff, and get some benefit for it?

<elux> you could store the "heads" of an inbox for a user inside of a blockchain, but, that gets expensive.. the user could thereafter retrieve the rest of the data and have it be verifiable, but it means anyone to send a message to an inbox has to pay a fee -- which does actually help with sybill attacks / spam
<elux> im still new to ipfs.. and with some googling, found someone suggest to use IPNS and updating latst entry there, that could work
