<drozdziak1> How can I squeeze the most out of pubsub? The problem I keep having is that discovering the publisher takes a long time even with --discover. Context: I have a project where I'd like to notify nodes subscribed to a topic (servers "on the internet" most of the time) to pin a certain IPFS link. Maybe there's a better solution than pubsub? I'd prefer the sender not to have to list subscribers explicitly.

<jamiedubs[m]1> huh, you could potentially use ipfs-cluster but that requires a lot of trust. I think pubsub makes sense in this case
<jamiedubs[m]1> not sure about the slowness, could you share the commands you're running (or code) if you can?

<Spetzatin31> Anyone here successfully set DuckDNS?
chiui has joined #ipfs
<Spetzatin31> I do not understand what port forwarding is useful for
<Spetzatin31> And how to connect my local folder with the chosen duckdns domain
chiui has quit [Client Quit]
<Swedneck> what does duckdns have to do with IPFS?
elux has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
<Spetzatin31> It would be used as a domain name for an ipfs website
<Spetzatin31> That's what I'm trying to do at least..
<Spetzatin31> But it's the first time for me that I deal with DNS and such
<Swedneck> i would recommend hurricane electric for DNS
<Spetzatin31> Is port forward a necessity if I'm linking a dns to my ipns?
<Spetzatin31> What I get right now is the modem home page when I go to the domain that I've chosen
<Swedneck> yeah you'll want to forward port 4001 at least
<Swedneck> also why on earth does your modem have a web page?
elux has joined #ipfs
<Spetzatin31> with web page I mean that page where it asks username and password
<Spetzatin31> I didn't mean literraly it :/
<Ryuno-Ki[m]> My router has a web UI also
<Swedneck> yeah it's probably your router's config page, not modem :P
<Spetzatin31> Yeah, I mean that :)
<Spetzatin31> but what should I write as ip server?
<Spetzatin31> The one that is like 199.stuff.stuff.stuff?
elux has quit [Ping timeout: 245 seconds]
<Swedneck> you'll want to set up DDNS, which requires either supprt in your router's firmware (ideally), or a client program on your pc
<Swedneck> unless you have static ip from your ISP, which you probably do not
<Spetzatin31> Nah i don't
<Swedneck> then check if your router supports DDNS, either generic DDNS or specific for hurricane electric
<Swedneck> or duckdns if you still want to use that
<Spetzatin31> I'll try, thanks!
<Ryuno-Ki[m]> DDNS as in Dynamic DNS? (Not DynDNS, the provider)
<Swedneck> dynamic

<Swedneck> if you want people to pin your hashes, you'll have to ask them as a person
<Swedneck> (there's also pinning services like eternum.io)
xcm has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<Swedneck> but if you just load your hashes from multiple public gateways, those gateways will cache the data until they run garbage collection
<Swedneck> which accomplishes the same thing as pinning, except they'll stop serving the data at some point
<JohnnyMilkshakes> ok cool so i just have to setup some contract between the node owner and data owner
xcm has joined #ipfs
<Swedneck> many people will gladly pin stuff if it's legal, and they like the content
<Swedneck> and not absolutely massive
<JohnnyMilkshakes> Yeah i am thinking of designing a framework that incentivizes ipfs nodes and makes building robust decentralized apps as easy as possible
<Swedneck> filecoin?
<JohnnyMilkshakes> similar except i am not confident in the abilities of blockchain
<Swedneck> actually another guy made something i think might interest you
<Swedneck> you could use that as a place for people to advertise their content for others to volountarily pin
<JohnnyMilkshakes> ah nice thank you that will probably be very helpful
<Swedneck> i like that you can only use it via CLI :P
<Swedneck> hmm, it should actually be pretty easy to make a gui for it..

<fiatjaf> there's also https://piln.xyz/ for pinning
<fiatjaf> jrabbit, that's in the design plans for https://bigsun.xyz/, the ability to follow stuff under a name, although it is probably in the long term design plans for ipns itself
