<JCaesar>
btw, is it possible to have two ipfs nodes in a kind of router/client configuration, where the client can still provide and receive content, but only establishes connections to the router?
<JCaesar>
Running multiple IPFS nodes in one network does cause quite a bit of traffic…

ˈt͡sɛːzaɐ̯: Depending on what you're trying to do you could run a single IPFS node as your "router" and then access via the HTTP API from your "client".

<swedneck1 "i definitely *did* say to demand"> I think the issue is not the amount of connections...
<RubenKelevra[m]>
The issue might actually be the amount of connection attempts to private networks
<RubenKelevra[m]>
If the IPS uses DS-Lite, there are private network IPs on both sides, so the router might have a large routing rule for those IPs.
<RubenKelevra[m]>
If there are connection attempts to the private networks and no return from the upstream router, the local router which does NAT still has to remember all those connection attempts
