<TraderOne[m]> IPFS site on CloudFlare is good just for hobby use. It’s slow and questionable reliability. I understand it’s not their core busyness.
<TraderOne[m]> There are companies specializing at IPFS hopefully they will come with some offers too after they will be done with coding pining.
<TraderOne[m]> Problem with ipfs hanging on windows after CTRL-C is not always reproducible.

<aschmahmann[m]> benaryorg (Discord): if you're planning on using IPFS on the public network you'd be quite sad if you managed to disable TCP entirely. As QUIC is currently experimental (hoping to be the default in the next release) most of the network is not advertising/listening on QUIC addresses.
<aschmahmann[m]> This means that when you try and do a DHT query, download data via Bitswap, etc. you may not get the information you're looking for. While you might be able to get away with saying "I only want data from people who have QUIC", being able to contact only some of the nodes in the DHT will seriously harm performance.

<swedneck1> have you considered getting a router that, like, actually works?
<swedneck1> because i would consider your router utterly broken
digitalnomad91 has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
<benaryorgDiscord> I was told this seems to be a rather common problem with cheap routers and hence probably affects a rather large part of households with fewer tech-savvy residents making widespread deployment of IPFS less likely, at least in that area.
<benaryorgDiscord> Hence the question whether there *is* a solution via configuration, otherwise I'd consider opening an issue with the respective project/repo so that said option could be implemented.

<swedneck1> i still think people should just get a functioning router instead of working around it in software
<benaryorgDiscord> I'm pretty sure many other people don't have the luxury of "just buying a new router".
<benaryorgDiscord> If a program did recursive calls without TCO you wouldn't be suggesting "more ram" but rewrite it to a loop, right?
<swedneck1> that's not comparable at all
<benaryorgDiscord> How not? :p
<swedneck1> a router should not just reboot when it's overloaded, that's awful
<benaryorgDiscord> About the swarm port: You mean `.Addresses.Swarm`?
<benaryorgDiscord> Doesn't quite work as noted earlier.
<benaryorgDiscord> > I can't just stop listening on TCP either since outgoing will still be TCP.
<swedneck1> Don't most people get a router from their ISP anyways?
<benaryorgDiscord> Most people do, and this one comes from the ISP.
<swedneck1> then tell the ISP to send you a router that isn't borken
<benaryorgDiscord> Good luck convincing the ISP to hand out newer model routers to every single customer.
<benaryorgDiscord> Seriously what's with that attitude?
<swedneck1> i'm sorry, but i expect my ISP to deliver a working service
<markusaurelius[m> who would use a router their ISP handed out!?
<markusaurelius[m> get you a juniper or a Cisco
<swedneck1> the router not rebooting from excessive load is part of that, if i choose to use their router
<benaryorgDiscord> I see, I'll just continue quoting myself then:
<benaryorgDiscord> > I was told this seems to be a rather common problem with cheap routers and hence probably affects a rather large part of households with fewer tech-savvy residents making widespread deployment of IPFS less likely, at least in that area.
<swedneck1> yes, and my suggestion is to demand the ISP actually provide their service
<swedneck1> you wouldn't accept your electricity just cutting out regularly
<benaryorgDiscord> If you are not interested in helping me remediate this issue I might as well stop asking you for help which might also mean that I'll subsequently drop my efforts to adopt *IPFS*.
<benaryorgDiscord> (you might notice that my tone has changed by now, I am sorry if I have offended anyone but I feel like my efforts are hindered by you right now)
<benaryorgDiscord> Sure this isn't a big thing for you, but if someone tech-savvy already has issues adopting *IPFS* then good luck getting widespread support, which you *do* need for a truly decentralised web.

<benaryorgDiscord> On a side note, the "good" approach to handle issues like these is not to tell people to buy a new router but the same way the Linux kernel development treats regressions:
<benaryorgDiscord> > The reverted commit didn't change any API's, and it didn't introduce any new bugs. But it ended up exposing another problem […]. So it got reverted.
<swedneck1> i don't think i ever said to buy a new router
<swedneck1> i definitely did say to demand the ISP send a router that actually works
<nalix[m]> <swedneck1 "i definitely *did* say to demand"> I don't know how that works in where you live but for me such a venture could take a year end to no avail
<nalix[m]> > <@swedneck:feneas.org> i definitely *did* say to demand the ISP send a router that actually works
<nalix[m]> * I don't know how that works in where you live but for me such a venture could take a year and end to no avail anyway
<benaryorgDiscord> Yep, that exactly.
