Honestly for some reason I had myself convinced that `object` was the new API and `dag` was the old one. Now I got those wires un-crossed.

Well don't worry about that uncrossing wires thing too much, the `object` API is going to be deprecated in the next release and while it'll still be usable it won't show up if you just type `ipfs` and look for the commands

Yep, go-ipfs definitely has a lot of commands and flags. I definitely explore around our API and make good use of `--help`

It's generally the CLI docs for me. I don't tend to use the browser docs unless I'm using the HTTP API directly (e.g. via curl). Maybe that's just me though 🤷♂️.

atopal: Im currently working on a messenger app. no installation, no registration or whatsoever required. Im looking for a possibility to add file/media sharing. I guess IPFS is a perfect match here. The user would spin up his own IPFS node with our web app, to be able to pin content. The CIDs would be published via the usual messages. I now need to figure out a good plan to have the content resolvable, also in case a

But yes, connecting to a remote node might also be a strategy. If a user has a node running somewhere, they would not have to use pinata as a "persistence solution"

To elaborate a bit, my idea is to use IPFS as a sensor data publishing mechanism for IOT devices. Traditionally that would be done through a vendor provided "cloud" service, but that is just.. not the spirit.

I hadn't heard of dat before, is it still in development? It'd be hard to say the pros/cons without reading their paper most likely, not really sure how it works (addressing seems too be done similarly to IPNS, that much I understand).
