<weust>
hello
<weust>
I can't ssh or ping my RPi3B+ setup, but can ssh/ping to my servers in my home network. playing video from the NAS works fine, connection to the mariadb server is working too. what could I be missing here?

<weust>
odd. wireless is alright for ping
<weust>
and ssh too. switching back to wired and both don't work anymore...

<DaVu>
weust: IIRC you can't use both. Disable wireless and ping to ethernet should work
<weust>
I know, I switch between the two. with only wireless I can ping and ssh, with only wired I can not.
<DaVu>
maybe you don't an IP while connected via ethernet
<DaVu>
did you check that?
<DaVu>
maybe the cable is broken
<weust>
if wired didn't get an IP address it wouldn't connect to my external mariadb server and my NAS. so the cable is fine.
<DaVu>
ah, ok
<DaVu>
misread that. Thought connecting to your NAS was meant for other clients
<DaVu>
so, if wired (and wireless is disabled) you can't ping the Pi? What error message do you get?
<weust>
Destination unreachable
<DaVu>
and for ssh "no route to host"?
<weust>
this desktop and the RPi are on the same switch.
<weust>
hold on, need to switch networks on the RPi to be sure.
<DaVu>
also please do me a favour. Please write down the IP you get via WiFi and via ethernet. They should be different
<weust>
they are differen. checked that.
<DaVu>
good
<DaVu>
could you please tell me which IPs you get where?
<weust>
this is weird. switched again (did that several times now, even before I enetered the channel) and now ping and ssh work on wired...
<weust>
I remember weird things in the past with libreelec. not sure if it's LE, but from experience anyway
<DaVu>
Well, I have several machines running LE. Also a Pi but I don't use that too much. I mostly use static IP adresses but also DHCP sometimes, but tbh, never got any problems with it
<weust>
me neither. even have several of my linux and FreeBSD servers at home using DHCP (fixed).
<weust>
always feels like LE, or at least the OS under it, takes a while to figure things out network/change wise.
<DaVu>
I only want to say, if that was a common problem, we might get notified by users already and tbh, you are the first one I hear of ;)
<DaVu>
no offense
<weust>
also set up a new mariadb which I can access fine using a tool in this windows machine, but LE can't access it...
<DaVu>
There's a "wait for network" setting at the LE settings
<weust>
none taken. wasn't expecting a known issue. been runnig this image for a while now
<weust>
yeah, I have that enabled
<DaVu>
ok, cool
<DaVu>
Tbh, that was my last resort. If LE is still unresponsive for pings randomly I'm out of ideas and we might need a dmesg
<DaVu>
even better a bug report at our forums
<weust>
when I ssh in LE I can ping the mariadb server fine, but LE reports I have nothing in it. there are two databases in the server.
<DaVu>
RPis are also a bit strange sometimes. As well as SD cards can be
<weust>
yeah, I know :-)
<DaVu>
I guess you already configured your advancedsettings.xml?
<DaVu>
to connect to your mariadb?
<weust>
have had brand new RPi's that just wouldn't boot or even power on. leave them aline for half an hour and presto! it turns on an boots
<weust>
I use a DNS record named "sql_kodi" so I only have to change the IP address in the DNS server. that DNS record can be resolved and pinged from LE
<DaVu>
Sorry if I misunderstood something. But isn't MariaDB in general the same as a MySQL database?
<weust>
it is
<DaVu>
So do you use the hostname at the advancedsettings.xml or the IP?
<weust>
it's a fork from mysql after Oracle f*cked things up, iirc. something like that.
<weust>
hostname. well, hostname of the server is "slag" (Transformers Dinobots) but the DNS record I use is "sql_kodi". same IP address
<weust>
I could try the IP address for testing of course
<DaVu>
Try using the IP
<DaVu>
Also make sure every client in your house is on the same kodi version
<DaVu>
as that's mandatory for MySQL
<weust>
don't worry about that, this RPi is the only client
<DaVu>
+1
<weust>
but I read that on the kodi wiki :-)
<weust>
the server is pure because I can and want.
<weust>
dangit. that option to wait for network was turned off somehow. I think between switching network adapters or having them both disabled? anyway, with that option enabled and the IP address it works.
<weust>
now to revert to the DNS record
<weust>
and that works too
* weust
whistled Twilight tune
<DaVu>
good it works for you now
<weust>
yeah. just annoying that everytime I do something like this, which really isn't that weird, I run into this stuff.
