<oblikoamorale> heya. a mini pc with Celeron 3965U (kaby lake) works with 8.2.5 seemingly fine, but I can't get it to boot 8.9.008 - the system just resets shortly after libreelec logo and version number in left top is displayed. how do I proceed with debugging the issue?
<DaVu> is ssh possible?
BCMM has quit [Quit: Konversation terminated!]
<oblikoamorale> on a working 8.2.5 - sure. latest alpha just won't boot
<DaVu> there's a difference between not seeing the Kodi gui and the boot process
<oblikoamorale> which is strange, because I run alphas on my other older C1037U system just fine...
<DaVu> have you tried to ssh in?
<DaVu> probably the network is already up and running and it might be able to
<oblikoamorale> I can't, the system just resets to bios just after a logo is displayed
<oblikoamorale> no, it is a matter of seconds
<DaVu> ah, so you are in a boot loop?
<oblikoamorale> yes, i've tried both live and installed variants
hijacker has quit [Quit: Leaving]
<oblikoamorale> they behave the same
<DaVu> Milhouse: ^^ do we know anything about that?
<DaVu> boot loop with kabylake after upgrading from 8.2.5 to 008
<oblikoamorale> i'm running a 8.2.5 now so I can extract any information from there
<DaVu> I guess that's not needed. Kabylake is nothing what I would call a niche product and we know it working
<DaVu> So I'm really a bit confused what's going on
<oblikoamorale> perhaps its that chinese flavour of origin spoils the taste
<oblikoamorale> i'll try earlier alpha builds
<DaVu> try a milhouse build from the kodi forums
<oblikoamorale> on it
<DaVu> I have to run. Will come back in about 30 mins
<oblikoamorale> thanks, I'm not in a hurry :)
<DaVu> +1

<oblikoamorale> nope, have the same reset with LibreELEC-Generic.x86_64-9.0-M1lhouse-20181205231444-#1205-g1f14e69.tar
<oblikoamorale> 8.9.003 boots fine

<T1w> hey
<T1w> does anyone know of a way of getting libreelec to play audio through both a hifiberry HAT and the HDMI connection?
<T1w> I've been looking around and I have tried looking at ALSAs various utilities that are available in libreelec 8.2.5, but the solution eludes me

<Ommand> perhaps instead of spending months trying to make that silly toy work you should just get an hdmi receiver
Fenster` has quit [Ping timeout: 250 seconds]
<T1w> well.. no
fraggle_laptop has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<T1w> I want the hifiberry hat to provide som better sound (and it sure does)
<T1w> but I just don't want to use it for hearing averything
<T1w> and I eventually (just now) got it working
fraggle_laptop has joined #libreelec
<Ommand> I quite doubt it sounds better than a proper avr
<T1w> as I have no avr and no reason to use one, it actually does
<Ommand> k
<T1w> I've got a classical stereo amp
<T1w> once I had 7.1 with all the bells and whistles, but no longer
<seo> there is no way to do what you want.
<T1w> seo: uhm.. I'm seeing it work right now
<seo> you either want the hat toy or hdmi.
baggar11 has joined #libreelec
<T1w> or.. hearing it actually
<seo> really?
<seo> okay
<T1w> yup
<seo> on both?
<T1w> just had to enable the onboard device in ALSA
<T1w> and then create a smallish asound.conf under /storage that multiplies the audio to both devices
<seo> ok, one more happy "audiophile". have fun then ;)
<T1w> hah, far from audiophile
<T1w> I was just not impressed with the minijack sound and with no avr there is/was no real other way of getting audio without having the TV turned on all the time
<T1w> the hat makes that possible
<T1w> and heating the livingroom with 300W from a plasma tv while hearing music all day long.. is just a bit wasteful
<Ommand> surely the AVR can be on without the tv being on
<T1w> that would require me to purchase an avr
<T1w> the hat was vastly cheaper than a somewhat resonable avr that can deliver the same amount of sound as my existing stereo amplifier
LargePrime has joined #libreelec
<T1w> and again - I've had an avr and a very fine 7.1 setup
<T1w> I've just not got that any longer and I see no reason why I should use an avr for something that a small hat can du just as fine
<T1w> do even
<Ommand> so if your toy hat thing and amplifier are of any value, why would you ever care to get hdmi audio out to the tv?
<T1w> because of WAF
<T1w> and ease of use for the kids
<Ommand> surely making it the default at all times would have made it very easy for them to use?
<T1w> not the slightest
<T1w> turn on the tv and watch stuff vs surn on the amp, turn on the tv and watch stuff
<Ommand> why would you ever turn the amp off?
<T1w> + added risk of kids messing up the amp or turing up the volume far far beyond what you'd want to hear a sunday morning while they watch cartoons
<Ommand> I should have just stuck with my original "k" and walked away
<Ommand> I'll do that now
<T1w> haha
<T1w> from my searches I can see that my idea and usecase is not unique
<T1w> in fact there have been several forks and patches for building both older kodi releases as well as (brrr) openelec builds
