<bcowan> does the beta for le potato use 4.* kernel?
<bcowan> or are the v4l2 patches still too early to work?

<butterfly> hm... updating from stable to beta works, but from alpha to beta deosn't
<butterfly> *doesn't
<DaVu> And the error is?
andy-burns has joined #libreelec
<butterfly> don't know
<butterfly> I've got two wp
<DaVu> so you say update from 8.90.009 to 8.95.001 doesn't work where from 8.2.5 to 8.95.001 works?
<butterfly> exactly
<DaVu> which result do you get when you try to update from 009 to 001? Does it boot or what is the error?
<butterfly> he unpacks the tar, and then he doesn't find the kernel ans system
<butterfly> [15:14:41] <butterfly> and he tells me "missing (target) kernel.img or SYSTEM!
<butterfly> [15:14:53] <butterfly> !
<butterfly> [15:14:55] <butterfly> "
<butterfly> [15:16:18] <butterfly> he finds the tar and unpacks it but then the above comes up
<DaVu> are you sure you downloaded the correct file?
<butterfly> yes I'm shure...
<butterfly> -h
<DaVu> ok, asked at the team, if that's something which is known
<butterfly> from these two:
<butterfly> Warning: Update at WP1 is broken if you use img.gz – please use .tar to update:
<butterfly> WeTek_Play LibreELEC-WeTek_Play.arm-8.95.001.tar (info)
<butterfly> WeTek_Play LibreELEC-WeTek_Play.arm-8.95.001.img.gz (info)
<butterfly> I choosed the first one
<DaVu> ok, that's fine
<DaVu> As I can't test that myself, we both have to be patient until I get some answer from the team ;)
<butterfly> I would switch back to stable and update to beta but I can test with my second wp if it would be necessary
andy-burns has quit [Ping timeout: 250 seconds]
<DaVu> sure, I can't expect you being patient if you have a working workaround, as I guess you want something "Just working". If you have a spare devide left and could act as a guinea-pig (if it's something know), that would be nice. But choose otherwise if you wish to
<butterfly> sure
<DaVu> do you generally know how to ssh into those boxes?
<butterfly> shure
<butterfly> grml *sure
<butterfly> and in detail also ;-)
<DaVu> What you can try (if you are sure that you have a WP1 and downloaded the correct file), fire up a 8.90.009, ssh in, run that command: touch /storage/.update/.nocompat, place the new update file at /storage/.update and reboot
<DaVu> It might be risky, if the files don't match to the devices. Hence I said, if you are sure
<butterfly> okay...
<butterfly> but just made the workaround...
<butterfly> LibreELEC (official): 8.95.001 (WeTek_Play.arm)
<DaVu> yeah. I don't see a reason, why it shouldn't work with an update from 009 to 001 as I did the same yesterday for my WP2
<oblikoamorale> hey DaVu, do you know the reason why update is disabled for network boot? the restriction like an OE legacy, I don't know why it wouldn't work for rw network shares. https://github.com/LibreELEC/LibreELEC.tv/blob/master/packages/sysutils/busybox/scripts/init#L89-90
<DaVu> oblikoamorale: sorry, don't know that

<DaVu> butterfly: are you sure it was an official 009 where you trie to update from?
<DaVu> *tried
<butterfly> yes it was
<DaVu> ok
