<recyclehero> I committed to a 24 hour project started 2hrs ago. cheap STB burnt and I remembered my past quests with Plex, Kodi and Libreelec <3.
<recyclehero> I want to compile linux to support my old TV tuner card which I know if openelec build supports it out of the box.
<recyclehero> how can I make menuconfig Linux source code before build?

<recyclehero> Now first I'll go with the precompiled image. Can i make it bootable by just 'dd'ing it?

<recyclehero> I'm on Gentoo and dont think I should download LibreELEC USB-CD Creator to make it bootable hence the Q
<recyclehero> pragmaticenigma
<recyclehero> its a binary!
<pragmaticenigma> why not try, don't see how there is any harm
<pragmaticenigma> yup
<recyclehero> pragmaticenigma: do you know if dd works?
<pragmaticenigma> I haven't personally tried using DD before. My instances have been running for years and I don't remember how I installed them
<recyclehero> oblikoamorale: thanks :)
<recyclehero> pragmaticenigma: great!
<buzzmarshall> you should be able to use DD to write the image no probs
<buzzmarshall> just make sure to run sync before removing the media your writing to
<recyclehero> buzzmarshall: sync perfect, thank you. getting on it and excited to run.
<recyclehero> i hope it support the tv card out of the box!
<pragmaticenigma> recyclehero: https://kodi.wiki/view/PVR_FAQ
<pragmaticenigma> recyclehero: There are some add-ons that can directly access a TV tuner device, but Kodi itself does not provide support for TV tuners. You would either need to find an addon or setup a PVR capable backend on another computer

<RoyK> hi! I'm watcing an old film and it changes between 4x3 and widescreen all the time, which is rather annoying. Any idea what to do about this?

<recyclehero> Is there a way I can put the PVR backend in libreelec image?
<recyclehero> If the kodi and pvr backend want to reside on the same machine can I still use Libreelec w/o no virtualization/containerization?
<mack-> RoyK: does the content of your movie alternate between wide and 4:3 on purpose? Like the director intended, but you want to change it? Or is the playback changing back and forth for you?
RedSoxFan07 has quit [Ping timeout: 246 seconds]
<mack-> recyclehero: TVHeadend is a popular light option for running on the same machine. The backend should be available as an addon in Services I think. There are plenty of tutorials written up.

<RoyK> mack-: the film is in 4:3, an old black and white film from 1953, Tokyo monogatari, and the resolution switched randomly between widescreen and 4:3. I just turned it off, since it was rather annoying.

<chewitt> RoyK: what hardware are you using? .. and can we get a sample of the movie file that exhibits the problem?
<chewitt> these types of issues probably can't be fixed through conofiguration
<chewitt> but we're always on the lookout for bad/unusual encodings for our library of problem test content
<chewitt> re-ripping or re-encoding the media is usually the best option to resolve such issues
