recyclehero: There are some add-ons that can directly access a TV tuner device, but Kodi itself does not provide support for TV tuners. You would either need to find an addon or setup a PVR capable backend on another computer

hi! I'm watcing an old film and it changes between 4x3 and widescreen all the time, which is rather annoying. Any idea what to do about this?

Is there a way I can put the PVR backend in libreelec image?
<recyclehero>
If the kodi and pvr backend want to reside on the same machine can I still use Libreelec w/o no virtualization/containerization?
<mack->
RoyK: does the content of your movie alternate between wide and 4:3 on purpose? Like the director intended, but you want to change it? Or is the playback changing back and forth for you?

recyclehero: TVHeadend is a popular light option for running on the same machine. The backend should be available as an addon in Services I think. There are plenty of tutorials written up.

mack-: the film is in 4:3, an old black and white film from 1953, Tokyo monogatari, and the resolution switched randomly between widescreen and 4:3. I just turned it off, since it was rather annoying.

RoyK: what hardware are you using? .. and can we get a sample of the movie file that exhibits the problem?
<chewitt>
these types of issues probably can't be fixed through conofiguration
<chewitt>
but we're always on the lookout for bad/unusual encodings for our library of problem test content
<chewitt>
re-ripping or re-encoding the media is usually the best option to resolve such issues
