<mack-> orzel: I think you said you had an x86 install. If I recall correctly, you use grub to pass kernel parameters
<mack-> other platforms use /flash/cmdline.txt

<orzel> mack-: grub? I dont find much about this on the disk

<mack-> orzel: I have only installed LE on raspberry pis, so I'm not familiar with how the intel machines boot. I thought I remembered discussion about passing kernel boot parameters with grub, but searching for the topic mostly returns instances of dual boot, so maybe that's what people were talking about :)
<mack-> probably mount -o remount,rw /flash then edit /flash/extlinux.conf or syslinux.cfg, like the example https://wiki.libreelec.tv/custom_edid#tab__intel
<mack-> assuming the parameter you want is supported. Maybe someone with more experience will offer some help.

<orzel> chewitt, mack-: ok. seems easy. But it's weird: /proc/cmdline contains "root=/dev/ram0 rdinit=/init usbcore.autosuspend=-1 BOOT_IMAGE=/KERNEL boot=UUID=5D02-BEA1 disk=UUID=4650d768-f44d-4e0e-8d9f-0b8c0c32f2eb quiet"
<orzel> while the APPEND line in syslinux.cfg is "APPEND boot=UUID=5D02-BEA1 disk=UUID=4650d768-f44d-4e0e-8d9f-0b8c0c32f2eb quiet"
<orzel> Those seem unrelated. I've grepped the usbcore.autosuspend=-1 in /flash, but can't find where it's from.
<chewitt> it might be forced from kernel config somewhere
<orzel> But it works, and i dont have all those errors in dmesg thanks to the new parameter
<chewitt> QED :)
<orzel> chewitt, mack-: thanks a lot ! I now know how to add parameters in le, a very useful knowledge :-)

<emOne> I completely fogot. Which version do I want to download for a s905x3 tv box?
<chewitt> emOne: have a go with https://chewitt.libreelec.tv/testing/9.80/LibreELEC-AMLG12.arm-9.80.0-box.img.gz .. use the x96-air dtb
<emOne> Thank you Chewitt!
<chewitt> put https://www.dropbox.com/s/gy294iyl0ff0wsi/u-boot.ext?dl=1 in the root folder of the SD card or colours will be messed up
<emOne> alright
<chewitt> there's no guarantee the dtb works, but ISTR you tried the SEI610 one before and the x96-air one is based on that, but tweaked a little
<emOne> fantastic I will use that
<chewitt> BT might work, WiFi will not (no driver in the image)
<emOne> :(
<emOne> As far as I remember the bluetooth didn't work either
<chewitt> on the x96-air box it probes but fails to load the firmware .. not sure why
<emOne> btw, the guys in the other kodi project did include the driver for that mediatek wifi chip in their os
<emOne> and it does work
<chewitt> mediatek or realtek?
<emOne> I think it was a mediatek chip
<emOne> on the a95x f3
<chewitt> most of these boxes have RTL8822CS and the driver doesn't compile on mainline, but I didn't look at it beyond an initial test yet
<emOne> MTK 7668
<chewitt> hmm
<chewitt> BT won't probe then as it's setup for the wrong device
<chewitt> and ethernet might be 10/100 only
<chewitt> as that's forced in the dtb at the moment .. can't get the x96-air to do GB
<emOne> I think that box only supports 100 mbit
<chewitt> most of these devices ship in a basic and standard config
<chewitt> basic is 10/100 with lower-spec wifi/bt .. standard is GB with a better wifi module
<emOne> interesting, so perhaps it actually supports up to 1gbit
<emOne> ahh ok
<emOne> the community over at LE is much more interesting
<emOne> than anywhere else
<emOne> and yes it makes sense to use mainline after pondering on it
<emOne> chewitt: btw, is it possible to turn on hardware acceleration for all the codecs older than HEVC?
<chewitt> H264 and VP9 should work
<emOne> awesome!
<chewitt> and Kodi should default to sw for anything else
<emOne> I will try it out on my box when I get home
<chewitt> HECV is the main missing one
<emOne> HECV is basically x265 right?
<chewitt> HEVC = H265
<emOne> great
<chewitt> do you know who manufactures the a95x-f3?
<emOne> I have no idea tbh
|Jeroen| has joined #libreelec
<emOne> how would you determine it? I have found a manufacturer for some of the older boxes in the series
<emOne> but the website doesn't list the a95x f3
<chewitt> last time I looked I found the FCC approvals
<chewitt> found it :)
<emOne> eyy you beat me to it
<emOne> there is another website .. where they list some of the older models in the series
<emOne> let me check

<emOne> chewitt: I wouldn't be too sure about this company as I did try to send them an email and it bounced
<emOne> I sent an email a while ago to sales@cyxtech.com

<emOne> as if the company didn't exist at all haha
<emOne> One of the amazon firesticks use the same wifi chip
pauljw has joined #libreelec
<emOne> chewitt: a company by the name of nexbox listed the older models of this box
<emOne> the site still worked in february but is now defunct
<emOne> it is funny how these boxes don't have a company name on the box
<emOne> just an alphanumeric sequence as the logo heh
