<{HD}> Would libreelec benefit from using the 8gb raspi4? Or is it not really ram heavy?

<Lord> libreelece works fine on a 2GB sbc so an 8GB won't change anything

<Antoine-> Hello, would you guys recommend a raspberry (pi 4?) for LibreELEC or are there better boards (some more open ones, that might not need closed source firmware)?
<pragmaticenigma> All of the supported platforms are listed on the download page. Most, if not all are some variant of the Raspberry Pi platform: https://libreelec.tv/downloads_new/
<Antoine-> pragmaticenigma: Thanks for the link! Would you know which one requires the least amout of non-free firmware?
ghostcube has quit [Quit: Verlassend]
<pragmaticenigma> I have not researched into that, as it's not a concern I have. I would encourge you to read up on what the closed source does. to that end, I don't believe there are any main stream CPU/APUs on the market that don't carry closed source firmwares
<Antoine-> Ok, I will do it, thanks!

<{HD}> Lord: thanks, I have an extra pi4-4gb and an extra pi4-8gb so I guess I will build my new install on the 4gb version
<chewitt> Antoine-> Allwinner is probably the most-open but also not the best supported, RPi is the "no brainer" for reliability and good support
<chewitt> actually.. I'll retract that
<chewitt> Intel x86_64 kit is most open
<chewitt> soem wireless and BT firmware required, but that's the same on all platforms
* r0bert is still using his old and trusty rpi1 with libreelec
<pragmaticenigma> I upgraded my LibreElecs to Rpi2 and haven't upgraded them since ... If I go to Rpi4, I'd be looking at the 8GB models and running Kodi directly in Raspian

<EuroTrash> Dunno what a Raspberry Pi 4 with all the goods costs these days... but the huge community is hard to beat, the platform just has a lot fewer stupid issues that will never be fixed. But if the costs grow similar to a NUC-like device, then that's definitely a slightly more polished experience.
<EuroTrash> My latest Kodi/LibreELEC is a NUC6CAYH, barebone it's 115 eurobucks, add 2GB or 4GB mem and a small cheap SSD and you're set.
