<naobsd> mmm... I'm becoming busy... my boards are getting cold :(
<amstan> naobsd: stress -c 4
<amstan> that'll warm them up, lol
<naobsd> btw I'll discuss about RK based Firefox OS board with some people in this week
<naobsd> on me? ;)
<naobsd> -c 1 is enough for me :)
<amstan> on your boards
<naobsd> winter is coming, it should be done :)
<naobsd> btw someone has experience with PX2?
<amstan> winter is coming!

<gb_master> hello, somebody here is using debian+mainline on RR?
RayFlower has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
RayFlower has joined #linux-rockchip
<gb_master> or at least knows how the SD ubuntu image available for download was created
antoinemaillard has joined #linux-rockchip
<naobsd> gb_master: I think debootstrap is enough
<gb_master> yesterday I was facing the same issue I had with gentoo
<naobsd> gb_master: what's the "same issue"?
<gb_master> using the mainline kernel, I can't use a user that isn't root
<gb_master> no sudo, no su, no ssh
<gb_master> but the same kernel works with the ubuntu image
<gb_master> so I guess it's not a kernel conf issue
<gb_master> I checked with strace and the process fails right after the execve, with an "operation not permitted"
<gb_master> FYI I installed debian by using qemu on my PC, but I guess it's useless information
<rperier> hi all
<naobsd> hi
<rperier> hipboi: Hi Tom, I planned to ask you "did you receive a lot of success for your RR pro" , but I just did read your replay on the ML, so I conclude that yes, you did
<rperier> cool
<naobsd> btw, firefly guy said that it's out of stock
<naobsd> (aliexpress seems to be in stock, not sure)
<gb_master> naobsd, you generated the RR SD ubuntu image?
<naobsd> and they will do some "promotion" when next batch is arrived
<rperier> out of stock ? already ? wow... that was quick :/
levd has joined #linux-rockchip
<naobsd> I hope they will do it for us too
<naobsd> gb_master: no, I'm not Radxa member
<rperier> it would be nice yes
<gb_master> thx
<rperier> we could try to ask, I mean, I just discussed about it with Tom cubie and argued about it, and the radxa company will do it for us :)
levd1 has quit [Ping timeout: 245 seconds]
<rperier> linux mainline support is usually a good argument
<naobsd> maybe I should do something for my firefly beta board... ;)
<naobsd> I'm becoming busy :(
<naobsd> new project start from next month (2014-12 - 2015-3). I'm not sure I can get spare time :(
<naobsd> rperier: did you see TRM for PX2?
<rperier> not sure to know what PX2 means
<naobsd> Rockchip PX2
<naobsd> it seems it's better than TRM for RK30XX
<naobsd> some omitted sections are described :)
<rperier> interesting...
<naobsd> I got SDK for this PX2 board http://en.chipspark.com/goods/Rayeager+PX2+2GB+Enhanced+Board/14#.VGxYaHV7h5Q
<naobsd> and I guess PX2 is almost same as RK3066 because kernel diff is very few
<rperier> I was not aware about it
<naobsd> me too
<naobsd> I synced source tree some hours ago and I only checked diff very roughly
<naobsd> they don't use git properly. there is one big commit based from wrong point, I had to find where is the correct "branch point" to get smallest diff ;)
<naobsd> (I'm not sure it's really "correct point")
<naobsd> forgot to say: I already asked to firefly team about that :)
<naobsd> PX2 TRM has info about NAND
gb_master has quit [Quit: Page closed]
<rperier> naobsd: oh you already asked about that, and ? did you get reply ?
<naobsd> rperier: "will do promotion" was the reply
<rperier> oh did not compute :D
<rperier> ok great
<rperier> (I did not drink my coffee yet, so that's complicated :p)
<naobsd> reply was short, they didn't say (will do)_for you(or linux-rockchip)_
<naobsd> so I said I hope
<rperier> according to the reply, I am not really optimistic about it, but I could be wrong. Wait and see :)
<naobsd> I also said like it should be for _developers_, otherwise their forum will be filled Qs like "how to use ubuntu"? ;)
<rperier> :)
<naobsd> ah, not only on their forum, our github repos are same. I already rejected 1 issue from firefly user ;)

<naobsd> oh, I remembered that I don't have any RK3066 device with schematics/kernel source
<naobsd> I guess it just work as same as other RK3066 boards
<karlp> naobsd: what's the connector on the back of the rayeager px2 board?
<naobsd> karlp: http://en.chipspark.com/images/upload/Image/s2/Ps2.jpg (4) left side? I guess it's USB-SATA
<karlp> yeah, that connector

<karlp> like allwinner did with a10s dropping things like gps receiver portions
<naobsd> I guess RK did _not_ make "different version" ;)
<karlp> I would say they definitely respun it to remove things and make it cheaper, otherwise why the new name?
<naobsd> grade/quality may be different
<naobsd> "for industrial"

<rperier> the module rockchip_drm_iommu.c is almost done, drv and vop are ported to it. now I have to play with the GEM module and dma allocations/mapping (in order to use cma)
<rperier> the harder part will be testing :D
<rperier> (not sure if I wait until I receive my RR Pro or if I start to debug with my RR late 2013)
<mmind00> rperier: I imagine the initial testing+debugging steps from "only black"->"something strange" will be the hardest part :-)

<Astralix1> hramrach_: I am not through the backlog, what is about rk-drm?
<hramrach_> like the 10 lines above what I typed?
<Astralix1> rk-drm \o/
<Astralix1> Do you have it? Does it work?
<Astralix1> :)
<hramrach_> nuh, I have no hardware to test with
<Astralix1> is it for 3288?
<hramrach_> no idea
<hramrach_> I have only a rk3188 tablet for which I have no Linux sources
<hramrach_> presumably with a hdmi it should be usable as hdmi stick initially but without console and no known working image it would be kind of difficult to set up
<Astralix1> I am already asking around, if I could get you something for this tab...
<Astralix1> Did you apply for a developer rock pro?
<hramrach_> nuh, I ordered normal one a few weeks before the dev promotion came up
<hramrach_> it's somewhere in the mail, presumably
<Astralix1> I am not doing much this week...
<hramrach_> not every week is fit for doing much ^.^
<Astralix1> All things I started went wrong... So I try again next week with better luck, hopefully.
<Astralix1> Nope... Even managed to crash my car today...
<hramrach_> that's a bit too much
<Astralix1> There is not much to top that without harming someone
<Astralix1> But see the sunny side, I planned to reduce the ensurance, but forgot about it...
<hramrach_> ^.^
<Astralix1> so you join in rk3188 development in the next days with full throttle?
<hramrach_> will see how that goes
<hramrach_> not that much time for development but having a device that has a serial port is really helpful. in saving time too :)
<hramrach_> also I am starting to lose trust in my PC so need a backup desktop ^.^
cosm has joined #linux-rockchip
<AstralixNB1> I am using the rock1 as a linux system and actually upgraded to latest (l)ubuntu
<hramrach_> I need 4G ram to run a web browser on a regular desktop it's not going to work well on rr but in an emergency it's quite usable I guess
<Astralix1> Actually running browser on 2G of rock runs quite good.
<Astralix1> I don't have 102 tabs open as I do on my workstation, but 30 tabs did not harm th performance
<hramrach_> the rk tablet is the only tablet I have that can run Android web browser with more than 2-3 tabs, too. The AW ones fail at that
<Astralix1> I only do miss hw-decoding and some 2D effects while moving windows and scrolling browser
<hramrach_> hmm, hw decoding would be quite helpful
<hramrach_> but rr should be generally able to decode in sw when the system is otherwise idle, right?
<Astralix1> About Android: A linux from a fast SD performs better than anything from NAND. Android itself I did only test on a slow SD Card, but it works quite good.
<Astralix1> Yes, but then you get only a few frames per second.
<Astralix1> However I did not try to tweak players to use multiple cores. And even I know how to set mplayer to use x cores for decoding, I have no idea of how to set this for any embedded player in a browser
<hramrach_> for me the hw decoder did not work in android. got severe sound artifacts until I switched everything to sw
<Astralix1> But in Android hw decoding should work
<hramrach_> should
<Astralix1> At least crewrktablets tries to improve hw support as good as possible
<hramrach_> I have original manufacturer rom
<Astralix1> but Google always modifies the code in that libstagefright area
dlezcano has joined #linux-rockchip
<hramrach_> the name fits. you should be afraid of taht code
<Astralix1> thats true!
<Astralix1> Is there someone in here who hacks samsung devices? I need some help (in a private talk, not to hijack this channel)
<mmind00> Astralix1: I can offer s3c24xx knowledge ;-)
<Astralix1> Hmm... It is a very simple thing. I have a dead S3 Mini. I saw someone booting an S3 from an SD-Card. So I just hope to recover it, or at least dump the internal eMMC without having to go through the full JTAG procedure
<Astralix1> Dead means the Phone comes up on USB with "ST Ericsson D800" what should be sort of a MASK ROM Loader...
<mmind00> hmm, ok I guess that is not something I can help with
<Astralix1> however thanks for asking

<hramrach_> Astralix1: that may not be that easy. As far as chromebooks go the SoC is locked to boot from internal (nor?) flash which in turn chainloads the emmc, sd or USB. you have to tell it which, too.
<hramrach_> if the situation with S3 is any similar you would have to open it and resolder jumpers to boot from SD in absence of the usual bootlaoder but then againm S3 is much older hardware and maybe they did not complicate things that much when they made it
<Astralix1> Oh, sorry. I know that the chromebooks of RK will boot through a protected loader. So if RK likes to loose lots of enthusiasts, they lock it down.
<Astralix1> But The thing above, that is dead and only showing a sort of primary loader is a Samsung S3 Mini. And is not related to RK or this IRC channel.
<Astralix1> However it is dead and I'd like to dump the internal eMMC to recover the photos at least. It's the phone from one of my childs.
<hramrach_> that is Samsung chromebook that is locked down. Requested by google for luser security
<Astralix1> I will not buy any Samsung products anymore. Medium Quality, extraordinary high price, absolutely beyound ground service.
<hramrach_> the hardware is quite good with the exception of the chromebook
<hramrach_> like the phones and tablets
<Astralix1> It's good, it's hip, but... Hope you never have any need for repair.
<hramrach_> don't think it's made to be repaired ;-)
<hramrach_> but srsly, is there some community of some users of samsung hardware with actual knowledge
<Astralix1> The repair center waists 90% of the time to find a reason to void warranty. Even the phone is only 6 month old.
<hramrach_> maybe best bet is figure out what SoC the phone has and look if there is an Odroid with same
<Astralix1> lol, could be an idea
<hramrach_> if that has an actual Smasung SoC
<hramrach_> some have qualcomm
<hramrach_> actually most stuff with 3G has qualcomm :/
<hramrach_> ... so a community of qualcomm users ...
<karlp> it's a phone, you've got slim to no chance of finding skilled users online :)
<Astralix1> Samsung Exynos 4412
<karlp> best bet is to fly to a capital city with a phone repair street and try and talk to a repair person directly
<Astralix1> I'll try to collect some info about JTAG connections. I do have a bunch of JTAG adapters and Exynos 4412 should not be a problem to boot.
<Astralix1> Ups, the Exynos is in the S3, not the mini
<hramrach_> not sure if that flashing software is for the mode in which your phone is stuck but you can try
<Astralix1> hehe, I already checked these instructions. But this requires the nand loader to start and bring the phone to the loader mode via button presses
<Astralix1> unfortunately this is not working.
<Astralix1> While most Samsung phones tell about which Samsung SOC is inside, at this phone only "a dual core cpu" is sayed...
<Astralix1> Probably the reason is that inside is an ST Ericsson U8500 or such sing... however a Samsung phone not powered by a Samsung SOC...
<karlp> hey, novathor! I have one of them.
<Astralix1> karlp, so we should talk about a loading image or a bootloader :)
<Astralix1> But I need to figure out, which SOC is insider there
<karlp> heh, no, my novathor phone is still my primary driver
<karlp> already sort of regret hacking it up to put AOSP on it.
<karlp> a friend actually worked on novathor before st-e all fell apart
<Astralix1> ah, ok
<Astralix1> Would be interesting if there is a loader that could be applied to it. So I can fire up eMMC and check what's inside.
<Astralix1> You know, something really simple and basic, just getting DRAM, eMMC and USB Debug to work would be fine. May be there is a uboot or such. I'll check at the weekend or ini the xmas holidays.
<karlp> you have the u8420 according to gsmarena, I have a sony xperia U, with u8500.
<karlp> was hoping the sony stuff might help
<Astralix1> Ah, cool! You fund the real SOC's name!
<Astralix1> Ok, back to rk in this channel :)
<Astralix1> but many thanks, karlp!
