so more practical issues for others not using gpu blobs with the remarkable screen resolution on Kevin, what terminal do you use to get a reasonable perfomance
<Ke>
also what is a reasonable benchmark
<Ke>
it seems that just cat for a huge text file is no descriptive of eg. scrolling workload

Ke, afaik gnome-terminal and some others cheat when a lot of text is send to the terminal
<Ke>
cheating is ok and preferred, just as long as text remains readable as well as possible
<Ke>
when just doing cat for a large file, it would be ok to skip the whole contents and just print what remains on the screen at the end
<Ke>
but when scrolling the buffer, the scrolling should be either smooth or updates after the scrolling should be almost instantaneous
<Ke>
also changing the window on irssi should be fast
<Ke>
and after changing virtual desktop the screen refresh should be fast

Ke, what I meant is that because the terminal cheats, doing a cat of a big file is not descriptive of a scrolling workload, so I agree with you
<adj_>
about cheating, it's good, only the last part that is keep in the terminal buffer, the beginning and some portions in the middle are rendered
<adj_>
if it's too fast to see it why render it
<Ke>
quite
