<Turl> CaptHindsight: pretty much any image or rootfs out there
<Turl> you can eg, apt-get install build-essential to get a toolchain on debian/ubuntu based images
<CaptHindsight> Turl: but how about free workspace? the images tend to have only 1GB free and then the kernel source is ~600MB so there is not much space left to build
<CaptHindsight> Turl: do you use crosstool-ng?
<Turl> CaptHindsight: just get a big enough card and grow the partition, or use a sata disk
<Turl> CaptHindsight: and no, never used crosstool. Prebuilt & distro toolchains ftw :)
<CaptHindsight> is there an easy way to grow the partition?
F1skr has quit [Quit: WeeChat 0.4.3]
<lukas2511> CaptHindsight: easiest way (as in "beginner-friendly") would probably be to use gparted
<CaptHindsight> SATA and uboot or SATA with coreboot? can it boot right from SATA or do you boot from SD or Nand and then just mount partitions on SATA?
<Turl> if you're asking how to resize partitions, then I'd recommend gparted as lukas2511 is saying
<lukas2511> iirc A20 can't boot from sata directly, so you need to have at least uboot on a microsd-card or nand
<Turl> CaptHindsight: sata as storage only
<CaptHindsight> for partitioning but if you're just flashing an ISO it's just the size they created
<Turl> sunxi hardware can only boot from sd or nand; you can keep your OS on sata though
<Turl> you're not "flashing an ISO"
<CaptHindsight> how to expand the size of the .img?
<Turl> you're restoring a disk backup on a mutable medium (a sd card)
<Turl> you can then use normal tools to grow partitions on that card
<Turl> just plug the card to your pc and grow the partition with gparted and you'll be fine
<CaptHindsight> ok
<CaptHindsight> i was trying to expand while it was running
<lukas2511> that can work too, but not with gparted i think
<CaptHindsight> I think gparted only works when unmounted
<lukas2511> you could use fdisk. remove the old partition, recreate with same start, reboot, and run resize2fs on the partition
<CaptHindsight> thanks!
<CaptHindsight> we had preempt_rt running at around 80uS latency on the cubie2 and xenomai ~40uS
<CaptHindsight> we wanted to try some RTAI tricks to see if it would get down to 20Us or so
<CaptHindsight> we also have a FPGA that connects to the A20 over SPI and a few GPIO
<CaptHindsight> trying to get this all sorted out

<ZetaNeta> hi
<ZetaNeta> I want to ask: What does people see in cubieboards/trucks which olinuxino lacks?
<ZetaNeta> Except the very high price
<mnemoc> more ram? :p
<mnemoc> also, the cubies were out first
<ZetaNeta> RPi was the first, but it doesnt make it better :)
<nedko> ZetaNeta: emmc
<mnemoc> afaik no olinuxino has GbE or emmc/tsd or 2GB of DRAM
<nedko> there is olinuxino with gbe
<nedko> som+evb
<mnemoc> and then you fall in the $$ difference
<ZetaNeta> Oh. As i remember there been a olinuxino with 2gb of ram, but now i see that there is none
<mnemoc> diff between a CT and som+evb with shipping
<ZetaNeta> I am just trying to find a board suitable for a "secondary PC"
<mripard> cubie's have emmc?
<mripard> since when?
<mnemoc> mripard: right. they intended to put tSD in the CT but then changed their mind and used a crap NAND
<ZetaNeta> Most important thing i need is a VGA, making CubieTruck my only choice actually
<mnemoc> mele m3/m5 has tSD :)
<rm> olinuxino is more expensive than CB
<ZetaNeta> (Or A13, for which i am not ready)
<rm> if you take the same hardware
<ZetaNeta> Any news on A80 yet?
* ZetaNeta last visited this channel around the time the first news started to appear

<specing> ZetaNeta: http://www.pcengines.ch/apu.htm :D
<ZetaNeta> Eh.... I am still waiting for the day it will be available in Pyra and in devboards :)
<mnemoc> ZetaNeta: tom said some weeks ago there is no reference design or even specifications available yet
<rm> A20-OLinuXino-MICRO 55 EUR + 29 EUR shipping = 84 EUR = 114 USD, whereas Cubieboard A20 = 60 USD w/free shipping
<rm> ZetaNeta, so you may re-check your "very high price" argument
<ZetaNeta> rm: Afaik it was over 120 euros....
<ZetaNeta> Oh... cubieboard?
<ZetaNeta> I was talking about CubieTruck :)

<ZetaNeta> mnemoc: Make one yourself?
<rm> $95 for the CT
<rm> full set with a "case" and stuff
<ZetaNeta> specing: How much does it cost?
<specing> ZetaNeta: around 150$
<ZetaNeta> And where does it cost?
<mnemoc> ZetaNeta: I can't even solder two wires together
<ZetaNeta> mnemoc: I got nothing to say but: "Sad... thats sad..."
<ZetaNeta> i got a totally ruined soldering iron with not much soldering skills... Yet, i can do something like that

<plaes> hrm.. wonder why they are so expensive
<mnemoc> ZetaNeta: try http://www.dx.com/p/27001
<nedko> olinuxino shipping is cheaper if you live in bulgaria :)
<ZetaNeta> 4 euros?
<mnemoc> plaes: it's amazing, yes

<specing> isn't bulgaria the poorest eu member or somethign?
<nedko> specing: not if you work as it
<nedko> IT
<nedko> and if are not IT, you probably don't want something like olinuxino
<ccaione> specing: that's not nice to say
<ccaione> moin btw
<nedko> this eu region is quite poor, for various reasons. the thuth is it

<ccaione> I know, I was commenting that it was a bit unpolite
<specing> I know, but a lot of people like that you don't tell the truth
<specing> its why they keep electing useless politicians
<specing> If they elected me, I'd be like the next Stalin
<nedko> specing: there is little democracy because of external political forces (represented mainly by NGOs) and the level of brainwashing propaganda in the media
<nedko> it has little to do with democracy/elections
<specing> there is too much democracy
<specing> you need strong leaders
<wens> got a cheap, half broken A13 tablet
<nedko> we are not allowed to have them
<wens> democracy's only as good as the people that truly care about it
<nedko> yes
<specing> + you must know that we live in an representative democracy, not "true" democracy
<nedko> if majority of people care about it
<nedko> yes, represantive democracy is it. and i don't like it
syeekick has quit [Quit: Leaving]
<specing> but for any kind of democracy you must not have dumb or apathic voters
<specing> which is a major problem if you ask me

<specing> speaking of true democracy ... Borg collective?
<nedko> specing: yes, it is the major problem with democracy

<specing> I think in 10 years it will be possible to interface the brain with a computer. Another 5 and we'll be able to leave our bodies and/or copy "ourselves"
<wens> specing: are you sure the Borg collective is a democracy?
<nedko> democracy is just a tool that is supposed to achive something
<specing> wens: it could be, I would have to read up on their structure again to be sure
<nedko> it is not a goal if you ask me
konradoo77 has joined #linux-sunxi

<robincook> there is no 'i2c dev [dev]' command in the command prompt. that means I can not change the I2C bus.

<popolon> Hi
<popolon> I installed a lubuntu 1.07 for cubieboard 2 (A20) yesterday
<popolon> I tried es2gear
<popolon> s
<popolon> it complain about lima driver
<popolon> there is no file called *lima* on the whole file system after a find / |grep lima
<popolon> is this driver really still active ? There is no move on git since one year ?
<popolon> or is the binary driver still needed ?
<popolon> and in this case, is someone have clue of why this distro ask for a lima driver ?
<popolon> I seen one year and half ago that someone started a lima driver for Mali6xx/7xx GPU
<popolon> is at least this one continue, as we probably will not see anymore Mali 400 in new devices, the last allwinner chip is probably the last one to have it ?
