<topi`> morning wens
<topi`> any ideas how to enable the Wifi chip on Merrii A31?
<topi`> the AP6210 chip, it's connected to usb hub #3
hramrach_ has quit [Ping timeout: 250 seconds]
<wens> topi`: need regulator support for the axp221
<wens> and poking some gpios
<topi`> wens: I looked at netbsd's A31 port, and they seem to have AXP221 supported
<topi`> wens: is the AP6210 held in some reset state by a GPIO output, or how does it work?
hramrach_ has joined #linux-sunxi
<wens> bbrezillon worked on axp221 regulators, but someone has to pick up the work and submit it for merging
<wens> topi`: the ap6210 is held in reset until a pin is held high
<wens> also there's the problem of the DT not having a sane way to do power on sequencing, i.e. enabling regulators and poking gpios
<wens> if you look at the mailing list archives, there were 2 discussions on this, though no results were produced
<topi`> so maybe it has to be enabled manually after bootup?
<wens> topi`: yeah, that's the state it's in atm
wingrime has joined #linux-sunxi
<topi`> I reckon the A31 power mgmt is somewhat different from A20?
<wens> topi`: do you have the latest u-boot running on the a31? with SPL?
<topi`> since the A20 seems to support many features just fine
<wens> topi`: the chip is different, so needs a new driver
<topi`> wens: nope. I just downloaded some uboot for A31 from linux-sunxi
<wens> topi`: i suggest using the new stuff, as you can get u-boot to set the regulators and forget about them :p
<topi`> oh!
<topi`> that's a convenient way
<wens> i can send out the defconfig for the hummingbird later
<wens> then you can just poke a gpio, or better, make a gpio controlled regulator in the dt
<wens> while this is not mainline-able, it will work
<topi`> why isn't it mainlineable?
dlan_ has quit [Ping timeout: 264 seconds]
heffer has quit [Ping timeout: 258 seconds]
<wens> topi`: i consider it an incomplete description of the hardware
dlan has joined #linux-sunxi
<wens> and it requires the bootloader to set the axp221 regulator in advance
<wens> but whether it is accepted or not is up to mripard
<wens> i'm just stating my views on the matter
heffer has joined #linux-sunxi
<topi`> yeah it's relying too much on the bootloader
domidumont has joined #linux-sunxi
<wens> btw, did you get your 3g module working? (or was it someone else?)
sehraf has joined #linux-sunxi
<topi`> nope, not there yet
<topi`> it needs some enabling, I'd guess
<plaes> wens: copyright year is 2013 in patch3

<speakman> hi folks. Just encountered something weird and I'm not sure it has to do with the kernel, but I can't exclude it either; when opening the UART (in my case ttyS1) for the first time, it doesn't open with the right baudrate. I've tried this using both pySerial and a pure C app. Both claim it's opened with 115200 (or just whatever you request while setting it up) but any data written will always be at 9600.
Froolap has quit [Quit: KVIrc 4.0.2 Insomnia http://www.kvirc.net/]
<speakman> A very simple workaround was to just open the port, closing it immediately, and then reopen it again. Now it will set whatever baudrate you request and use it as it should in the first place.

<iuno_> Hi, I'm trying to build mainline kernel for cubietruck but it doesn't boot. I followed the wiki guides and used an arch linux sunxi7i rootfs (image for cb2), which works on its own but not with the new kernel. I connected via ttl and I'm getting this:
<iuno_> [ 1.120274] Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init! exitcode=0x0000000b
<iuno_> [ 1.129397] Rebooting in 10 seconds..Reboot failed -- System halted
<hramrach_> iuno_: that's the very last message but there should be a reason why it killed init
melonipoika has quit [Ping timeout: 264 seconds]
<hramrach_> either way if you got this far it's pretty much working. likely just missing an option or two somewhere
<iuno_> unfortunately, I dont have very much because I didn't figure out how to enable scrollback using screen... but this might be interesting?
<iuno_> [ 0.809740] Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at virtual address 00000048
<hramrach_> so try to power off the board, disconnect the TTL, cable, reconnect it, set up to capture all messages, and power on again
<iuno_> http://pastie.org/9759301 this is what I have
<hramrach_> screen has special in-screen scrollback
<hramrach_> hmm, it crashes in stmmac probe .. which should work
<Seppoz> do you use sata?
<hramrach_> just for testing you can disable stmmac and/or sata and see if it boots
<iuno_> no, I'm using a sd card with one partition
<hramrach_> also you can build the drivers as modules so you can load them by hand later
<hramrach_> beboom: yes.
<iuno_> hm ok but I was actually trying to build a static kernel and building gmac inside it.
<iuno_> I try to disable stmmac and sata
bengal has quit [Ping timeout: 256 seconds]
<iuno_> thanks. here is the full output btw, which doesn't say very much to me: http://pastie.org/9759309
<Seppoz> iuno_: also make sure your memory settings are good
nicksydney has joined #linux-sunxi
<hramrach_> presumably they worked with 3.4 kernel
<hramrach_> also what is the problem with 3.4 kernel?
<hramrach_> I just upgraded debian and had to enable a kernel option
<hramrach_> but it works with 3.4 kernel when I recompile with the needed config options
<Seppoz> hramrach_: is there any knows issues on A20 when it comes to lcd support?
<Seppoz> or is is 1:1 as A10
<beboom> hramrach_: what ?
<beboom> a10s booting from NAND ?
<hramrach_> you can boot an a10s from nand
<beboom> wow !
<beboom> how I do that ?
<Seppoz> just use the apropriate uboot?
<hramrach_> same as any other device with nand
<beboom> hramrach_, i used to boot A10 from nand, but A10s is not working
<Seppoz> procedure is the same
<beboom> I tried to chance u-boot (hardcoded) to boot from nand, but didn't work :(
<beboom> do you have a tutorial or something like that ?
<hramrach_> how did you get u-boot for your a10s device?
<beboom> I follow this tutorial, but didn't work :S
<beboom> i got the leech-dev uboot from git... didn't work... so i tried with sunxi... didn't work too
<hramrach_> Seppoz: do you have any problems with lcd?
<Seppoz> well i dont know yet. it might be an assembly issue
<Seppoz> so ill produce 2 more boards
<Seppoz> it didnt work last time
<hramrach_> beboom: only lychee has nand support
<beboom> so, i've tried to chance the uboot code to hardcode it to nand, didn't work too :S
deasy has joined #linux-sunxi
<Seppoz> worked on A10 with 1:1 same hardware tho
<Seppoz> just different board
<beboom> A10 works fine...
<beboom> are you sure a10S work as well ?
<hramrach_> I don't have nand on my a10s board
<beboom> i have a MK802 A10s
<beboom> (in fact, i have 45 units from MK802 A10s)
<hramrach_> you need correct u-boot config for your stick
<beboom> the best thing I got was boot from SD with root=/dev/nandb
<hramrach_> a10 u-boot won't boot on a10s
<beboom> I know... this is the reason why I got leech-dev from git and compiled it to MK802_a10s
<hramrach_> do you have serial console?
<beboom> no, because is impossible
<beboom> On the board labelled VER:1.0, due to bad routing, the two pads which were meant to be the UART instead turned out to be PB11 and PB14, rendering them useless. You will have to resort to a MicroSD breakout board to get serial on this device.
<beboom> I don't have the MicroSD breakout :(
<hramrach_> you can get one easily
<beboom> Yeah, i ordered one from r0ck.me, but didn't arrived yet...
<beboom> besides that, hans goede said the NAND suport for MLC nand is not available yet... :S
<beboom> I use kernel 3.4.103
<beboom> hramrach_, do you think i need to try other kernel version ?
<iuno_> hramrach_: so with stmmac and sata disabled I got closer but systemd services won't start. thanks for your help, I gotta sleep now but might have to ask again ;)
<hramrach_> iuno_: the systemd problem is possibly due to missing kernel options. Debian complains that I need to enable stuff to upgrade to new udev
<hramrach_> beboom: kernel version should not be an issue
<hramrach_> problem with nand is you can either use the Allwinner code in 3.4 which is unreliable for unknown reason or the experimental mainline code which is known to handle MLC flash poorly
bonbons has quit [Quit: Leaving]
<beboom> yeah, i guess so... the problem is u-boot... because when U-boot is ok the red led turns on... otherwise only the blue led will turn on
iuno_ has quit [Ping timeout: 246 seconds]
<hramrach_> and without the console it's really hard to tell what's wrong
<beboom> My kernel used AUFS to mount the nandb as readonly... after that every write operation will be on the RAM, not the NAND
