<hramrach_>
not writing to the nand does not prevent wearing it down. it just wears it down much slower. but if the allwinner FTL is not made to handle readonly it will not do bad block management and the repeated reads will corrupt the data

android does something similar so you could say it's well tested setup but it's also well known that android get correupted over time and needs to be reflashed from time to time
<beboom>
I use the MK802 A10 (not a10s) about 2 year, 24x7, with AUFS and i never had a problem with nand corruption... but is a common sense that the AllWinner FLT is not reliable at all...
deasy has quit [Quit: Nom d'un quark, c'est Edmonton !]
<beboom>
but is true, many people complain about that even when using android...
<beboom>
but for me, the worst problem is to use uSD for everything...
<beboom>
today, with A10, i use the uSD just to reflash the mk802 a10 when something bad happens...
<hramrach_>
it fails on some devices at some time but not on other devices or at other time but there is no understanding of the AW FTL so nobody can tell when it fails and what triggers it
<tyler-baker>
Hello. Anyone have experience with fastboot on the optimus A80 board? I can boot a mainline kernel, but cannot seem to load a ramdisk. If i build the ramdisk into the kernel it works fine.
<iuno>
hramrach_: ok, I'll look over that tomorrow. why I didn't want to go with 3.4 kernel was, I did pacman -Syu in old manner and that gave me problems as wlan stick was not working anymore and neither did ethernet, I think. I think there was something with udev or systemd, as I read in some fedora forum. But also, I just want to learn and try out things. It's quite new and exciting for me ;)
<beboom>
hramrach_, the first version of mk802 a10 from china i got 45 units... the only problem i got was poor soldering issues... but the nand is OK... I buy those MK802 directly from the industry (i visited then at Shenzen in China)
<beboom>
after that, i bought other 10 units from MK802 a10 from E-Bay and had some issues with RAM (random problems)
<beboom>
now, i got more 45 units of MK802 with A10s (since they don't sell mk802 a10 anymore)
<beboom>
and my problem now is to boot from NAND
<beboom>
from uSD, everything works flawless
<beboom>
i used a patched kernel 3.4.103 with AUFS, and i made a linux from scratch to run on it...
<beboom>
I managed to use /dev/nandb as rootfs (booting from uSD) and it works with no problem at all...
<Seppoz>
does the [target] settings in the fex file do anything?
<Seppoz>
anyone here worked with merrii C21 board before?
<Seppoz>
or with any merri boards
<Seppoz>
that have A10/A20 processors
<beboom>
hramrach_, to be honest, when i used EXT4 on the A10 NAND, i got a lots of corruption problems (even when using AUFS), but after i changed to EXT2 (with AUFS) i never had a problem with corruption anymore
<beboom>
maybe what triggers the problema is something in journal FS
<Seppoz>
beboom: did you doa abad sector check and saved it in uboot?
tinti has joined #linux-sunxi
<beboom>
Seppoz, never
<beboom>
to be honest, i don't know how to do that
<beboom>
but is not a problem of bad blocks...
<beboom>
the problem is the File System
<beboom>
because after reflash, the problem disappears
<beboom>
since i got a lot of units, i managed to make a lot of tests using EXT2 and EXT4...
<beboom>
and for sure, ext4 is a problem with nand
<hramrach_>
I did but I did not find specification of the hardware

<premoboss>
no driver needed (all OS support it)
<premoboss>
the board is plug and play
<premoboss>
(remeber to install firmware-ralink to support wifi moduless)
<hramrach_>
are you sure it's 5730 and not 5370?
<hramrach_>
also reportedly the LAN9512 *does* need a driver: USB_NET_SMSC95XX

<premoboss>
yes, 2.4Ghz
<sleeply4cat>
wens: tnx %)
<premoboss>
but it is soldered module, you van get themoboard no-wifi and add the module you prefere
<hramrach_>
I suggest you write the hardware specs on the web page presenting your board
<premoboss>
ops, tes, 5370, i ALWAYS mistake the name. about the driver: yes, it is USB_NET_SMSC95XX. what i mean is that it in the kernel since age, you dont need "exotic" driver just release ass alpha.
<premoboss>
hramrach_, thanos, i will do.
<premoboss>
upgraded info on web page, thanks for suggestion.

Just found the discussion on kernel version and A20. What version is suggested these days? According to the linux-sunxi.org Wiki, sunxi-3.4 is still the latest stable available.

<premoboard>
ok

Montjoie: latest like in latest official kernel?
<Montjoie>
yes 3.17 for example
<speakman>
Oh, didn't know that. Sounds great! Any known features lacking? Is it a big step moving from sunxi-3.4?
<iuno>
tyler-baker: mine does boot now. it seems my problem was in fact stmmac which prevented the kernel to boot when activated. I just pulled the latest kernel source and there was a change in stmmac and it works now. Still having the systemd problem though...
<hramrach_>
iuno: try looking for kernel optins that are needed to run systemd
<hramrach_>
you may be missing some

yes i already found something yesterday, but got to look closer ;) ty

has nothing to do with fbturbo

and I will ask my 2nd question. About 1 month ago, I was using openbox-lxde
<stulluk>
and that time I had sound from my browser
<stulluk>
i.e I could listen music from youtube
<stulluk>
But now, from command line, I can play everything, however can't hear any sound from youtube
<stulluk>
Can you guide me, which logs that I need to check ?

still checking, but no result
