<sunshavi> Hi guys. On my opipc ethernet connection drops from time to time. Has You guys experienced something similar?
<montjoie> sunshavi: define more precisely "drops"
<sunshavi> disconnects
<sunshavi> montjoie: ^^^
<montjoie> does the status goes to down ?
<montjoie> do you have any kernel/log message?
gsz has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds]
<sunshavi> i have it connected to my opi+2e. for having a local connection. I am going to check that next time it happens. then I am going to report back

<megi> I have cumulative uptime 50 days on my orange pi pc's and not a single drop in dmesg
<sunshavi> megi: weird. I have a thinkpad connected before without issues also
<megi> all cables are going to the switch though
<sunshavi> no this is direct connection
<sunshavi> from device to device
<megi> I know
<megi> are you using crossover cable?
<sunshavi> simple cable
<sunshavi> it works
<megi> maybe auto MDI-X on opi doesn't work perfectly
diego71 has quit [Ping timeout: 264 seconds]
<sunshavi> MMM. could be. how shoul i check it?
<megi> with a crossover cable
<megi> maybe it can also be forced via ethtool

<sunshavi> megi: on a side note; could i turn off the yellow flag led of ethernet from cli?
<megi> I haven't found a way to do that
<sunshavi> ok. my opipc is @1296 Mhz. But opi+2e is just @1200. could I try to speed?. Perhaps 1250. When I have tried 1296 it hangs
<megi> hmm, my opi pc has led polarity inverted so led only shines when the cable is not connected
<megi> green led still blinks though
<sunshavi> mine always shines
<sunshavi> i would like to repurpose the led. when no ethernet connection
<megi> but this is on the old 4.13 kernel, I guess mainline opi pc support has the correct led polarity
<megi> repurposing will be hard, since the outputs are single function, just for phy
<sunshavi> ok. I am using the red one for indicating when connecting to wifi.
<megi> hmm, I thought we were talking about ehternet connector leds
<sunshavi> back to talking about opipc ethernet connection. It seems less unstable with opipcplus dtb than with opipc dtb.
<sunshavi> I noticed it cos i am playing mp3 from opipc sending the sound to PULSE_SERVER on opi+2e every time connection drops music stops
<sunshavi> megi: yes we were talking about ethernet leds. I was just mentioning. I need another one. but perhaps. I am going to leave red on and green off for indicating another state to me visually. when turning on opipc and waiting for it to convert on a wifi-extender

<karlp> I'm also personallyu curious what motivated that setup of mp3s on opipc goign to sound on opi+2e?
<[TheBug]> sunshavi: out of curiousity did you also change the uboot or only the DTB when you witnessed the improvement?
<sunshavi> TheBug: uboot
<[TheBug]> makes sense
<[TheBug]> its probably initializing the ethernet at boot time a little different
jstein has quit [Quit: quit]
<sunshavi> I use opi+2e as workstation. opipc is just for compilation (kind of spare). But It has an ssd hdd. opi+2e is limited by emmc. I need an SPI ;)
<[TheBug]> only real different between pc anc pc plus should be the emmc and wifi, so leaving it on that uboot if more stable shouldn't hurt anything
<[TheBug]> in fact, I have a bad habit of running the plus2e uboot on all h3
<[TheBug]> as it's generally 'compatible'
<sunshavi> TheBug: I have done that also. But ethernet is not recognized on opipc
<[TheBug]> ashh right cause you go from gmac to emac
<sunshavi> with opiplus2e dtb
<[TheBug]> yeah
<[TheBug]> cause PC and PC PLUS only have 100mbit fast ethernet interface
<[TheBug]> i remember now
<sunshavi> karl: so more space for mp3's on opipc. But just one speaker which is connected to opiplus2e
<[TheBug]> sunshavi: did you do a diff on the dtbs to see what may be lacking from one over the other?
<[TheBug]> well decode to dts and compare I guess?
<sunshavi> I have done. But they seem very similar
<sunshavi> one of they says allwinner and the other one not
<sunshavi> let me check it
<sunshavi> most is phandle
<sunshavi> and this one on opipc allwinner,leds-active-low;
<[TheBug]> hmm ya probably because it initializes in different order hmm
<[TheBug]> interesting, will maybe try my self when I have time and see if i can replicate
<sunshavi> TheBug: But both of them drop connections. still something should be fixed or improved IMO
