<apritzel> jernej: how do you feel about sending the h616 U-Boot patches to the ML?
<apritzel> jernej: I don't think it makes sense to wait for the Linux DTs to be acked
<apritzel> for U-Boot itself this is mostly irrelevant (for a new SoC!), and we can update them at any time
<apritzel> and most of the patches are independent from any DT content
<apritzel> jernej: if we can start the discussion and public review *now*, I see good chances that we can merge this already in January
<swiftgeek> where is voltage being set for battery charging on axp209 ? linux axp209 code made me think that uboot sets it, but then i don't see it in uboot

<mripard> wens: don't we have support for that in the PMIC battery driver ?
<swiftgeek> if linux then i only saw it pulling it from register like so https://elixir.bootlin.com/linux/latest/source/drivers/power/supply/axp20x_battery.c#L80
<mripard> if i remember well, you should either be able to set it in the DTS through a simple-battery binding, or you can change it through sysfs
JohnDoe_71Rus has quit [Quit: KVIrc 5.0.1 Aria http://www.kvirc.net/]
<swiftgeek> i don't get great results for simple-battery, but i guess i can try
<wens> right, never actually tried it ...

<mripard> wens: me neither, qschulz worked on it quite a while ago :)
<mripard> so it's a bit blurry
<qschulz> I've been summoned apparently
<qschulz> from the driver, yeah you should have an entry in sysfs to set it at runtime
<qschulz> the min voltage can be set with a battery binding
<qschulz> same as for the current charge
<qschulz> and now I'm sad I didn't add an example in the dt-binding :/
<qschulz> the driver reads voltage-min-design-microvolt and constant-charge-current-max-microamp

<jernej> apritzel: sure, I will send them at latest next week
<apritzel> jernej: great, thanks!
<jernej> apritzel: I also needed some away time from all this, it's effectively second job :)
<apritzel> jernej: I totally understand, no worries!
<apritzel> jernej: I can also pick them from your github, fix the things already mentioned and send them on your behalf
<jernej> as you wish, but wouldn't that slow down merging process?
reinforce has joined #linux-sunxi
<apritzel> jernej: I don't know, was just an idea if you are busy
<apritzel> but if you can send it next week, we don't need that, I think
<jernej> apritzel: next week I'll be on vacation, so I'll have time
<apritzel> same here ;-)
<jernej> and I finaly received proper micro HDMI cable
<jernej> HDMI controller seems same as on H6, except that it doesn't want to output anything
<jernej> EDID is read correctly, plug in/out events are also generated correctly
<jernej> I suspect that there is something wrong with clocks...

<apritzel> jernej: did you use the v2 version of the Linux patches? I fixed some video clocks in there
<jernej> no, not yet
<jernej> this was done with v1

<jernej> and TV box, where there might be issue with regulators too
<jernej> it's so annoying that even with Android DT and FEX file it's nearly impossible to tell which regulator is used for which functionality
<jernej> apritzel: I forgot to tell, TV box I have uses XR819 wifi module, so nearly useless for mainline
<jernej> and I don't plan to fiddle with it
* apritzel prefers cable over radio waves anyway ;-)
<jernej> true, but that was question for mmc1 test
<jernej> *me too
<apritzel> well, I meant this just for testing, so maybe we can just confirm that we can talk to the chip?
<apritzel> smaeul: since I was about to post the H616 TF-A patches, are you done with your changes? ;-)
<apritzel> smaeul: looks alright from a first glance, which means I would probably rebase mine on top of your's

<jernej> apritzel: is your branch h616-v2-pre identical to ML patches?
<apritzel> oh, did I forget to push the proper v2 branch?
<apritzel> jernej: to answer your question: no, I did some fixes in between
<jernej> ok, no worries, I can pull ML patches
<apritzel> jernej: fixed, pushed v2 to github
<apritzel> sorry!
<jernej> you don't need to apologize, this is me being lazy applying patches
<apritzel> jernej: well, I actually promised this branch in the cover letter ...
<apritzel> jernej: actually the PERIPH PLL was already wrong in v1, so I got twice as high SD card speeds ;-)

<willmore> apritzel, regarding your comment about delay slots being a hidden source of pain: I remember when I ran into them in the MIPS R2000 CPU back in the early 90's. I remember thinking "Oh, there's something that's never going to come back to bite them in the ass.</s>"

<hexdump0815> jernej: regarding hdmi on h616 - maybe its similar to my eachlink box where is need to add video=HDMI-1:e to get anything on the hdmi port? did you try that already?
cmeerw has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds]
<hexdump0815> jernej: and in case you want to have some basic driver for xr819 for testing - this one is supposed to be a somewhat improved mainline version of it: https://github.com/fifteenhex/xradio
<hexdump0815> jernej: btw. i plan to help testing what you have for the h616 soon a bit as well
<jernej> hexdump0815: I'm sure it's not that issue, plug events are detected correctly
<jernej> most likely clocks or regulators
<hexdump0815> jernej: ah ok - just wanted to mention it at least
<jernej> regarding wifi - thanks, but I'm really not that interested in that wifi
<hexdump0815> understandable with this hardware :)
<jernej> or most of them, for that matter
<apritzel> jernej: is there any chance you can read the AXP registers from the BSP on your TV box? So that you can get the voltages and status on each of them?
<jernej> yes, I did that
<jernej> through debugfs - regmap
<apritzel> ah, nice!
<jernej> but still, I don't know which regulator is responsible for which peripheral
<apritzel> can't you put those values into the .dts, with regulator-always-on or something, then turn them off one by one and see what stops working?
<jernej> I tried that, but I didn't get conclusive results
<apritzel> bummer!
<jernej> few of them are obvious, like cpu and dram
<jernej> but for example, I couldn't pinpoint emmc regulators
<jernej> there are 3x 3.3V and 2x 1.8V
<jernej> btw, kernel can also shut down regulator when peripherals are not in use
<apritzel> jernej: can? Doesn't it always do this? This bit me already quite a few times ...
<jernej> I mean dynamically
<jernej> but yes, it does that at boot
<apritzel> jernej: but you didn't get HDMI on that TV box either, I guess?
<jernej> I tried only on that box, I received proper HDMI cable for OPi today
<jernej> I plan to test HDMI on OPi in next days
