wens: is the 'rgmii-id' change also applicable for boards with non-realtek PHYs? (I have tested that change with a64-olinuxino and a20-olinuxino-lime2 which have Micrel PHY)
<wens>
you likely want to get it right in the DT. but the recent breakage mostly affected RTL8211
<wens>
there was one other PHY that was affected, but I can't recall which one
<plaes>
well, with lime2 we configure the delays in the u-boot but we don't really handle it in the linux driver
<plaes>
so you think it makes sense to send patches for these boards?
<wens>
those are slightly different
<wens>
I don't know the precision of the Micrel PHY, but for RTL8211, the precision of the delay in the SoC was finer than the PHY, and also had a smaller range
<wens>
the RTL8211 had 2ns delay, while the SoC's is in the 10~70 ps range IIRC

plaes: the DT lacks a type that describes "keeps delay configuration set by others"
<swiftgeek>
i have tried this and i'm not sure if simple-battery kicked in https://bpa.st/ABFA (definitely didn't use the value in voltage_max_design), but at least it enabled axp20x-battery
<swiftgeek>
though somehow not the charging portion
<swiftgeek>
added now axp20x-ac to it, https://bpa.st/TNCA , but still doesn't want to charge
<swiftgeek>
ok somehow kicked in after discharging for a bit
<swiftgeek>
maybe i need to install saner, bigger cell to make something out of it, but anyway not sure how to see simple-battery being recognized
forbidden has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<swiftgeek>
simple battery ended up on /sys/firmware/devicetree/base/battery/voltage-max-design-microvolt , not sure if that's correct
<swiftgeek>
maybe it needs to be somehow referenced in dt of axp20x so it uses it

<wens>
did you check the capacity readout?
kaspter has joined #linux-sunxi
<wens>
also, the axp20x-ac driver really doesn't do much except let the system read out status
<wens>
there's also the case where the PMIC doesn't have much power to spare and so the battery is bouncing between charging and discharging
apritzel has quit [Ping timeout: 246 seconds]
<swiftgeek>
yeah i didn't check capacity, so it was probably related to that
<wens>
if you have a USB power meter or sth similar, I suggest checking the power draw of your device as well
<swiftgeek>
https://bpa.st/6QVQ with added monitored-battery , but still doesn't change voltage_max_design
<wens>
what does /sys/class/power_supply/axp20x-battery/voltage_now say?
<swiftgeek>
4181000 and status charging
<swiftgeek>
it was nearly for sure me being dumb and not checking capacity
<swiftgeek>
(capacity at 92% nwo)
<swiftgeek>
*now
<swiftgeek>
qschulz: ok now i think i indeed see it only checking voltage-min-design-microvolt / constant-charge-current-max-microamp , though that was a typo :D
<swiftgeek>
so i guess i need to indeed calculate right value for axp209 register and write it from uboot script
<swiftgeek>
*I thought that was a typo

i will try discharging a bit and then cold booting that
<wens>
are you using a tablet, and is it powered through micro-usb?
apritzel has joined #linux-sunxi
<wens>
FYI the USB side of the PMIC has severely limited power
<swiftgeek>
using AC side, but that explains things i guess
<swiftgeek>
i have a tablet and tablet board as server as well ^^
<swiftgeek>
though datasheet mentions 900mA, and i don't really have anything that would supply more
<wens>
it's nominally limited, but you can tweak the register and remove the limit
<swiftgeek>
yeah cold start like before but discharged battery and it is charging fine without touching it
<swiftgeek>
even if i switch to USB it still works
