<aw_>
xiangfu, be noticed that _.crc.ac5975c._ bin has a condition shown up: camera's output mixed with VGA pattern when first pressing 'h' then pressing 'd'.
<xiangfu>
aw_, thanks. I will fix that. not cleanup after take a picture from video.
<lekernel>
xiangfu, only green jack works atm, and this is composite
<lekernel>
mwalle, (early ack) yes, that was an attempt to increase resolution
<xiangfu>
oh
<lekernel>
(windowmanager) nope, using gnome now *g*
<lekernel>
xiangfu, do you think you could make a very nice edited video with 1) unboxing of the M1 2) good camera setup with lights and black background 3) video stream of the GUI when writing a small patch from scratch (with comments)
<lekernel>
(just forget about the "security" aspect, it's easier than that to damage FPGAs... according to a xilinx engineer: just fill the matrix with SRLs and throw a walking bit pattern at 500-ish MHz in there, and you'll probably melt the solders. but the encoding information is very interesting)
<wpwrak>
so xilinx have invented the auto-reflow process ? amazing
<wpwrak>
very restrained for a press release. "could bring", "may also", ...
<wpwrak>
"computer-based solutions" .. hmm, so M1 isn't a computer ? :)
<kristianpaul>
is not a PC
<wpwrak>
but i'd still call it a computer. worse things have been called that ;-))
<wpwrak>
i think the overall tone should be a bit more assertive. not like in a research paper where you're hedging your bets are very careful to avoid any claims your colleagues will be more than happy to disprove
<kristianpaul>
vjing in 3 minutes is a good title i think
<wpwrak>
"hope that this can lead to" how about "chose this to" (and then maybe merge the two sentences. although long sentences are tricky in this kind of material)
<kristianpaul>
and is actually true
<wpwrak>
yeah. we really need to bring that boot time down ;-)
<kristianpaul>
is this a launch for developers too?
<wpwrak>
developers need no special invitation :)
<kristianpaul>
:-)
<kristianpaul>
wpwrak: when i receive my m1 it booted in 3-4 seconds i remenber
<kristianpaul>
was damn fast !
<kristianpaul>
still Early adopters?
<kristianpaul>
it wasnt the rc2 batch?
<wpwrak>
maybe with the memory getting faster, it could compile patches in the background, while rendering :)
<kristianpaul>
or this time is VJ Early adopters?
<lekernel>
background compilation is more a CPU problem than a memory problem
<kristianpaul>
dual core ! ;)
<lekernel>
it'd probably work easily with a dual-core lm32
<wpwrak>
yeah, the "early adopters" can be misread
<wpwrak>
now there's a plan :)
<lekernel>
no one knows about the "early developer kit", don't worry
<kristianpaul>
okay ;-D
<kristianpaul>
but early still like..
<lekernel>
(and this is why I'm writing press releases now, which is quite honestly an activity that I hate)
<kristianpaul>
ok is an arealy thing lets wait it get mature
<wpwrak>
(compilation) but i think before taking heroic measures, i think the compiler wants looking at. at least the bits i looked at (not code generation yet) look quite inefficient. not sure if they contribute much to the overall runtime, though.
<kristianpaul>
s/arealy/early
<wpwrak>
the joy of becoming an entrepreneur :)
<kristianpaul>
lekernel: personally how you feel when talking ot other VJs?
<lekernel>
oh, they love this stuff
<lekernel>
especially with the camera support and the new design :)
<kristianpaul>
excelent, what they said about bought one? or making patches for it?
<kristianpaul>
cause the VJ people i know are happy doing all thet could from their laptop ..
<kristianpaul>
my point is that milkymist *could* be better selled like a vide* syntheis "appliance" than a tool for VJ's, considering you can automate lots of stuff already
<kristianpaul>
of course brochure points that i thikn
<lekernel>
yes and they do that from a Mac laptop only because they like good design. fortunately, it seems they also like the M1 design :-)
<lekernel>
but I could emphasize a bit more the "low latency" aspect though
<wpwrak>
would a DJ consider routing the sound that goes to the speakers through the M1 ?
<wpwrak>
if yes, you could have effectively zero latency
<kristianpaul>
(design) and they dont matter have to plug external keyboard/mouse and screen?
<kristianpaul>
s/matter/mind
<wpwrak>
that's a nice substitution ;-)
